Is the clock ticking on the Sorcerer Mickey Hat icon at the Studios? YES!

That thing looks even worse behind the scenes... Though I suspect many Disney attractions are like that. ;)

You would be correct in suspecting.
The answer is yes to some degree, depending on the Attraction.

Some of the things to be seen would probably *ruin the Magic* for many...thus why such things are allotted to *backstage*, after all.
But of course, that just makes such things all the more tantalizing to discover.

Sometimes, letting some things remain *backstage* is better.

I am looking forward to the first set of demo photos.
I want to see mangled metal. Yes, i do.
Payback for having to suffer through those horrifying 'Horizons' demo photos.
( shudders )

On a more positive note:
Imagine a photographic image of the semi-demo'ed Hat in the foreground, with the beautiful facade of the Chinese Theatre peeking through from behind in the background.
( blisses out for a moment )

Yeah.
THAT is the photograph i want to see.
( Would-be arriving photographers to the scene to come...take note! )

Nothing can make up for the war crime that was the demolition of Horizons.

Suffice it to say that I will have a smile on my face watching that BAH come down and restore the old Hollywood feel of DHS.

Only 5 years and 175 pages later.... Better late than never I suppose.

Heh heh...well that is nothing compared to the 12 years i have had to look at the actual Hat in the Park itself... messing with the view down Hollywood Blvd and outright blocking the view of the Chinese Theater.

Looking forward to my first return visit Post-Hat...whenever that is.
:)

Although I see that as possible, I don't recall that even being a rumor. It was more an overzealous fan thinking out loud and pulling that out of the sky. It's only a rumor if it has some degree of traceability back to someone that might actually know.

you know... you're seeming an awful lot like an overzealous fan thinking out loud

And if it's fiberglas you probably cannot use a torch at all, Although a burning BAH would be spectacular!
If you snip the tip of the hat then set ablaze from the bottom, imagine the torch of combustible vapor spewing out the top. That would be spectacular until structural integrity failed and it slowly falls into a pile of flaming goo on the stage. Kind of like the Wicked Witch of the West but with flames.

I am excited that it is coming down, but it is a little sad in a sense. It is a nice piece of architecture, it was just placed in a horrible location.

It may have been mentioned earlier, but is it more than coincidental that the demo of the Hat comes immediately after the Turner sponsorship of the Great Movie Ride?!

Does Ted Turner have some powerful connections, or are even more changes in store?

Demolition is an art, not a science. i am sure there is a timetable of sorts somewhere, but the structure will come down as quickly and safely as the structure will allow. if they cannot break it down with wrenches and sockets, then it will be torches: both faster and slower(faster to make seperation cuts, slower cause you cannot really torch during daytime hours where slag can fly)
just nuke it from orbit.. the american way (tm)
