Is the clock ticking on the Sorcerer Mickey Hat icon at the Studios? YES!

Heck, did they even do anything for DHS's 25th?

They had a plaque dedication or something, and they did a motorcar parade for the 'stars' of DHS. A pin, cupcake ... lol So yeah, that seems to be the go-to for anniversaries. Shame.

It seems we could have a lot of new and great things by the MK's 50th, but at the same time, shouldn't they be using the anniversaries as points of launching new attractions, announcing new things ... that alone gives you a timeframe to work towards. But what do I know? LOL

I mean, wouldn't it have been nice if at the 25th anniversary they announced the demo of the big hat, the upcoming overhaul of the park ... nope, not TDO. I'm not even sure if any of that was greenlit at that point but that's not the point.

I don't understand the hate for the Cake Castle. Yes, it was over the top and ugly, but it was kind of cool for what it was. And it was temporary and meant to be temporary. As someone else said, at least they went through a ton of effort for the anniversary to make the Castle different. They don't do anything even close to that scope now.

I could understand being disappointed if it was your only trip to WDW for awhile and you got a picture with the Cake Castle vs. regular Castle, but then again it's kind of like a time capsule. You captured a "special edition" of the Castle ala 1996. The Castle is otherwise the same year to year, so I don't think a temporary variation was a big deal.

At least the Castle Cake was actually truly temporary, unlike the decade plus existence of the "temporary" Epcot wand, Epcot millennium village awnings (they are so ugly), and the Studios Hat. These items were all supposed to be "temporary", and it has taken years and years for them to disappear. At least the Castle Cake went away when it was meant to.

I'm sure someone will post a better pic but this is the Best I could do on short notice.

it's a shame really... with all the fireworks that sparked fires at the MK this past year... why couldn't one of the frozen fireworks set this thing ablaze? Might have saved money on deconstruction too :)

As much as I hated the cake castle, at least they DID something for their anniversary. Now it's a cupcake, a pin, maybe some merch, and bored management trying to make a speech and overeager fans getting disappointed. Magic Kingdom deserved so much more for it's 40th.

The whole 40th anniversary of the Magic Kingdom was so screwed up. It's as if management didn't even realize that 40 years is a milestone.

I could kind of understand not making a huge deal out of the 30th since they just did the 25th, but even then, it seems like pins and a little fanfare would have been in order.

To completely miss the 40th just seemed door- dumb to me. From what I remember reading, lots of people packed the parking lot early in the morning and ended up walking down World Drive over by the Contemporary to get into the Magic Kingdom because nothing was setup or thought of (I assume the whole TTC area was completely packed).

It's frustrating. Over at Disneyland they at least have a little ceremony with some fireworks and characters and things for every anniversary.

Can you access/view the Earful Tower anymore from the park? I thought it was only visible on the now defunct tram tour? I don't think it's a terrible icon, but it needs to be able to be seen!
