Is the clock ticking on the Sorcerer Mickey Hat icon at the Studios? YES!

HOWEVER, Before all of this happens there are other things that need to be taken care of first. First and foremost the Pin trading store needs to be moved. Second the power going to the store and the hat needs to be severed. Once this is done I imagine they will remove the shrubs for fire safety and clear the ground of everything reachable without a man lift or crane including all of the railings and the the weird gold colored curly cues. All of this will take a few days to a week depending on how detailed they are being. (Disney's not known for the expediency)

That's actually what I came into the thread to mention. The box on the paperwork showing the area to be worked on does *not* contain the entire area that the Hat takes up. It also doesn't include all of the curbing and steps around the Hat.

But what it *does* fully include is the store under the Hat. This NoC may just be for Step 1 of the process, which would be to remove everything from the store. We may still see future filings for overall demo of the Hat structure itself.

@marni1971 , you are making me both nervous and sad to here that a change may be in store for GMR and the Chinese Theater facade. What you are talking about is blue sky or close to being green lighted?
Just a proposal as far as I know.

As for the interior there is conflicting news but I'm told at this time there are no plans to severely alter what's inside.

I wouldn't mind the GMR getting a redo on the inside at some point. It needs updating but right now it's gotta be the least of their problems. It sill holds up for the most part and it's only dated in a sense that the movies are "old". I myself call them "classic" but Tarzan really needs to go ... and so does the cowboy schtick. Just do the gangster one. It can be tightened up and the ride could be really impressive again if they just gave it a little attention ... but anyway ...

WOOHOO bye bye Hat!

dont kow about the timetable, but if they wanted it gone NOW, i would say a pair of excavators with shearing jaws could make short work of it overnight

Interesting observation, but I don't think they would hire a steel contractor to just clear out the shop. I also don't see why the would split it into two permits if the same contractor was going to be doing all the work.

Agree and Malenius note to Cast seems to indicate that also.
Disney Spokesman Bryan Malenius has confirmed the change is coming, and this was a message sent out to Cast Members at DHS:

“We will soon begin to re-imagine the park’s central hub by removing the sorcerer’s Hat in early 2015. As part of that change, the store located underneath the hat will be closing, A closing date will be shared as we get closer to it.”

I doubt they would hire a Steel Contractor to remove shelves and pins. Disney's Planning Dept. is far more prudent than that.
