Is Soarin' Ruining Canada?

Perhaps when all is said and done it will be a combination of many things...

-large trees placed on elevated land, to cover parts of the building
-"mountain" rock structures added (maybe with a small waterfall)
-parts of the building will remain visible (especially the parts that are closer to FW)

:)

I highly reccomend a book by John Hench called "Designing Disney". In it, there is a great two to three page discussion about the color of the America Pavillion. This demonstrates the RIDICULOUS amount of time WDI puts into the look and feel of a particular epcot pavillion. I'm sure that the warehouse will either be covered or masked in some way. Not to worry! :)

Soarin

It looks like the Swan and Dolphin all over again. Kind of ruins the forced perspective of Canada. It looks like something that would be done at the Disneyland Resort recently as far as sight lines (granted they have to due to lack of space)

Count my vote with those glad for a new attraction. $55 plus for a day pass should get you more than flowers and "pardon our dust" signs. Even if they are very nice flowers.

Mission: Space was greatly needed and Soarin' will bring added value.

Sorry, Canada. We like your beer and glacier parks, and your friendly people, but if you had stepped up and built a Soarin over Canada thrill ride instead of that easy to pass up movie inside your pavilion, we wouldn't be having this conversation now.

Oh snap. I am actually looking at canada outside my office window and i think you got them ed they are all vcoming out of their igloos and getting the sled dogs ready

Although it is wishful thinking, I think they should add a Canadian ride into the mountain with AAs and movie clips while riders are in say the Rocky Mountains in slow moving ride vehicles. It would give a great impression of Canada and a lot better then the outdated 360 movie. I'm Canadian and I think it doesn't give an impressive feeling of our great country after seeing. In fact I've only seen it once because I was so bored with it the first time.

WDI always does a good job of hiding show buildings (well except for DCA). Look at Haunted Mansion. You can see some of the building right next to the entrance, but for the most part it is hidden. DCA's Soarin show building was designed to be apart of the theming of the park. The Epcot show building is back stage, and thus could change the color. I think WDI will do the best job with what they are given. Eric, one of the head WDI guys will do a good job.

They better plant some huge evergreens... FAST... :lookaroun The forced perspective is completely ruined... (as it is currently) Wait a minute... they CAN'T plant huge evergreens, that'd ruin perspective too!

I guess the only conclusion is: Mountain-themed backdrop... :)

I'll second that. The BF and I have an ongoing debate over who is cuter, Jamie or Mark.

You can't have it both ways. You don't build Soarin' and people are upset. You build Soarin' and people are upset. People want new e-attractions and they get them and they are still upset. Why do "we" find fault with EVERYTHING Disney is doing? Can't we just be grateful for a new attraction?
I have to totally agree!
I cant believe that people who complain about not having new attractions, can complain when it dosent work the way they want it to!
I also feel that way about the people who are "supporting" Save Disney...I am, but I am also not going to complain...Whatever new attractions open, or movies are made available..Ect. Those people are the same ones who complained before, and the will be the same people who complain no matter what happens, because its not going the way THEY want it to.....

I don't think people are complaining, but rather are wondering what WDI will do in spirit of tradition to make the area look more realistic. :)

I was thinking the exact same thing too but was to afraid to bring it up and start a heated discussion.

But I completly agree they need to do something with canada, because that just looks tacky

Okay, I thought I'd throw my 2 cents in here. :)

As Soarin' currently stands in its construction phase at the point as it is shown in those photos from Grizz, I think it destroys the skyline of Canada.

Now then, I realize they're not done building Soarin'. I have FULL confidence in WDI...what worries me is if WDI will be given enough funding to properly address the issue (which I'm sure they are aware of :), you'd have to be blind to not see it). BTW, the Imagineers were also aware of the issue with the Swan and Dolphin and the skyline...but were overruled by management (Do you remember who exactly it was Grizz?)

I only hope WDI will be given enough time and funding to ensure a consistant looking stage in the Canada pavilion area of Epcot.
