Is it just me, or are the Be Our Guest menus NOT appealing at all?

Disney just can't win, can they?
After the never ending stream of "dumbed down for the Dining Plan" comments I'm a bit surprised Be Our Guest is being criticized for not being dumb enough. I look at the menu and don't even see anything particularly fancy, just a fish, chicken, pork, beef, shellfish and a vegetarian entree. That's certainly not going to take away business from Victoria and Albert's but it's a better variety than any other restaurant in the Magic Kingdom.
I give a lot of credit to Disney for making a menu that isn't just sandwiches and chicken tenders, especially when they could have easily gotten away with it, considering the demand to just get in the door.

Nobody said the menu had to be 'dumb', but all of their entrees seem overly "froo-froo" and pretentious....especially for a theme park crowd. I guess I was expecting something more along the lines of Coral Reef in nature; a restaurant with a little something for everyone but is in-between places like Cosmic Ray's and Brown Derby.

I saw a few things that looked good for lunch...nothing really that appealing for dinner (except the cupcakes! :D ). Over time we've found that we prefer the Table Service restaurants in the resorts over the ones in the parks. But who knows, maybe we'll change our minds once some reviews start rolling in. I definitely want to SEE the inside of the restaurant, if nothing else. :)

I'm thinking I could well be in a very tiny minority on this, but in looking over the Be Our Guest restaurant menus for lunch and dinner.....there doesn't appear to anything on them that I would eat. I have no doubt, though, that it may well become a favorite place for many, possibly even becoming the "Le Cellier" of the Magic Kingdom. I will be popping in at BoG to check out the results of all the planning and construction, but personally, I'll be sticking with Cosmic Ray's or Pecos Bill's for food. Am I alone in thinking their menus don't hold any appeal?

I'd have to disagree with you on the validity and appeal of the menu; it's certainly appealing but has its own time and place.

I love Pecos Bill as well, but my brain doesn't switch from a nice menu to a special cheeseburger (love the onion ring!) that quickly. I know that morning, and depending on what I eat for lunch, whether or not I want something prepared well or to go greasy

I think it is a fantastic Menu, will be great to see kids eating something more adventurous than a burger for a change.

Agree. As well, this is about value too. Think about what you pay for the Dining Plan. You get one "burger/nugget meal" a day with your quick service option, what you pay for table service needs to be of value and variety. Were I a day visitor of the park, I might feel differently. As a family, in for a week, we need some real food. BOG seems to have it. Finally a decent dining option in MK for one credit.

Exactly - finally we see a menu that contains, dare I say it, real food. This food is far from"frou frou", pretentious, or hell, even fancy (or even advenerous). It is pretty straight foward food.

I will reserve judgement to see how well it is prepared, but the menu at least *sounds* appetizing.

I think the Be Our Guest menu looks great, but I have seen quite a few people complain about it on various social networks. I fear that it'll be a well themed Mcdonald's in a couple years.

there are plenty of places on property to get chicken fingers, a burger, and fries. the magic kingdom desperately needs some upscale dining.

i hope this doesn't sound condescending, because i'm a reformed picky eater. was one from the time i was about 4-5 until my early 20s, but this could be an opportunity to push slightly past your normal fare. i say slightly because disney would never go too far off the beaten path with a menu. especially one in the parks AND one that will be the de facto flagship restaurant in their most popular park.

i think its great. i mean its suppose to be good quality french, however, i wish they would offer a few more options for adults and kids who may not like the food, or cannot have super rich food.

I have been a long time lurker but had to join to say something about this thread. OMG People!!! What the heck do you guys eat? There is nothing "fancy" with the menu, like someone else already translated the menu for you, it is steak and french fries, pork chops with vegis, and chicken with potatoes and vegis. This is normal food that most of the planet eats, so I was wondering what in the heck does everyone eat at home if not "meat and potatoes and vegis"?

I felt that the menu looks good for MK. If it was in EPCOT or in one of the resorts I probably wouldn't give it a second look. To me the lunch looks better than dinner. I will be in WDW too early to try it this year, but next year I think I will stick to QS for lunch.

My thoughts exactly! How can standard french peasant food be too frou frou for the "theme park crowd"? I'm a proud member of the crowd, and I am glad that Disney is adding more variety to its menus and keeping with the backstory of the theme. I love a good burger, but to serve it here just would not have the right continuity with the whole theme of the restaurant. Also this is just classic french everyday food and I would be very surprised if half of those who say it is "too fancy" have ever even tried it.

I demand you all go and buy a Julia Childs book and start cooking a Beef Bouguignon this instant.

I must be some foodie or just a pretentious jerk or something because I felt the menu was a bit uninspired and they were just trying to make it sound more fancy than what it is.

Me, I'll go to the Brown Derby instead and get Potato and Leek Soup, Duck Two Ways and some Créme Brulée or eat in EPCOT or something.
