Double that marketing budget too. Disney still only gets half the ticket sales to make up all that money too
The theater cut is assumed in the 2X multiplier. But that is domestic only. Overseas theater's cuts can be as much as 85-90%.

Explain the MATH!

Maybe explain it to Collider too. Because they are actively ignoring/misdirecting that article around modern Hollywood math:

Disney gets around half - at most - of the box office take.

$525/2 = $265 of the take. $140 marketing and $250 budget is $390 mil needed to BREAK EVEN.

$390-$265 is a currently paper loss of $125 of RED INK

so I’d like to point out that I save the juvenile for specific cases. Like when the facts are facts and someone - cough - tries to sneak “non-facts” in an attempt to convince the last word is the truth.

But the truth is the truth.
Don't forget other recent updates (this is not Little Mermaid, but Dr Strange) that impact the overall bottom line in the "Hollywood Math" scene https://www.forbes.com/sites/caroli...re-than-its-estimated-budget/?sh=1cf29fae320b I forget where things last stood in the new calculus, but I think it was that half a billion in losses wasn't bad. I guess this puts it closer to 600 million?

Price point is all relative. I would find more value spending $5K at WDW spread through a few days. Swifty fanatical fans spend $5K for one ticket for premium seating to catch their idol in a 3 hour concert. A neighbor actually had a good time at Hard Rock Casino , room, shows, food, drink, gambling even though he lost several thousands dollars in just a few hours at the tables.

I do get what you're saying. Many here still find value in Disney. The people here aren't your average Disney guest. Price definitely plays a factor for many. It's the only thing that makes sense when travel is up including Florida but somehow Disney is down.

My god we like to recycle false narrative

Pop concerts, Broadway shows and nfl games are NOT valid comparisons to weeklong average vacations you fly to…

Checked that one off the list today 👍🏻

Each bring value and memories to the customer. The $5K I would spend would be more be beneficial at WDW, others would spend it front row to bring value and memories into their minds attending a Swifty concert for 3 hours.

Speaking of Memorial Day...we went to Hollywood Studios the Saturday of Memorial Day weekend and it was the least crowded I'd seen Studios in the last 5 years. I was stunned and kept looking around thinking where the heck is everyone.
Disney's Hollywood Studios empty?

Try July 2020! 😁

I was looking at dates in November and not only was French Quarter in the 300s, Art of Animation was in the 400s, discounted from the “standard rate”, in the 500s. That blew my mind since it’s a value resort - I get that families love the heavy Disney theming there but you could stay at AK for that price!

Disney fans love saving money so much they will gladly pay extra for it! Who wants to stay in some stuck up deluxe for $400 when they can save $$$bank staying in a value for $400!

More on topic; maybe attendance suffers when the 'value' rooms are sold out regardless of price. Because we 'get more' value and everyone demands that.

MM+ was a lie…

Bob needed to pay for a MASSIVE IT Upgrade and wouldn’t say “hey…it’s a bill but we gotta pay it…”

So it was dressed up as a “revenue stream”…which it never was.

That tactic has snowballed into bigger problems today…as there are no “costs” to run theme parks anymore. It’s all a profit stream.
That makes far more sense than "it's to enhance the guest experience " 💩 🤣

Ive done both. TS was worth every penny of the money i spent to go with my daughter… with that being said they are 2 totally different experiences and memories. But i chose to see TS over going away for MDW and have zero regrets and no vacations would top the time we had.

I think the main issue driving the downturn is inflation. For anyone that has been going to the grocery store for the past few years you have all seen how rapidly the cost of your bill has gone up. I have a family of 4 and it’s ridiculous how much my bill is each week to replenish food in my home compared to just a few years ago. Gas is still relatively high in many areas of the country as well.

I just think people don’t have that disposable income at the moment. Disney never has been and still isn’t very cheap to visit. You need to have quite a savings to be able to visit the parks. Airfare, hotel, park tickets, food, souvenirs and genie + are all going to add up to thousands of dollars! Who has that kind of money when a carton of eggs is $7 at Walmart?

While the parks are struggling, people are still traveling to Florida in big numbers.

I feel a lot of this comes down to what value are you getting for how much you are paying. And again, all relative to each individual. When we first started going, you could go to 3 off the parks and catch a parade - DHS, DAK, MK (afternoon and night). You could also go for fireworks at Epcot, MK, or DHS. At one point in DHS, you could see Frozen fireworks or a Star Wars projection show. How many of these are now gone? This lessens the overall quality of the trip.

Oh yeah, we could also get to the resort via Disney-provided transportation that we didn’t pay for separately. Also gone, diminishing the experience and aims to cost as now we rent a car or pay for transportation to our resort.

Remember Streetmospher in DHS? Yeah, me too. Remember the characters and droid that were going to make SW:GE a living, breathing space port? Remember how it was going to be a brand new experience that we…oh yeah, that got zipped by baldylocks before it even had a chance.

In today’s environment, with inflation where it currently is, expendable income is down. People are being forced to make choices. Part of that is having people ask themselves if they are getting value out of what they are paying for. With WDW, it is diminishing. It has been talked about and debated for years on these boards. I used to think people were so wrong on here. Not any more. I feel that Disney might have crossed the rubicon and we are in uncharted waters for the first time.
