Is attendance really down at WDW this or…

You’re kidding right? Yea travel is slowing other places as well but there has been a lot of conversation about people being more frustrated with Disney

Some people are frustrated with Disney, and most of those frustrations are related to the overcrowding (Genie+/Reservations/Etc).

If the place isn't crowded anymore, would they return? Probably. People go to see their favorite characters, ride their favorite attractions and spend time with their families. Nothing has changed that in the last three years.

It's really silly to assume that, while everywhere else is starting to slow down, that Disney's slowing is completely attributable to the things you like to complain about on a daily basis.

Is it safe to assume then that is attendance picks back up that those same people are now endorsing all those previously frustrating changes?

Their customers are out of money…

That's a totally different argument though and one that's probably slightly closer to the truth. There's a slight difference between "I don't want to go to Disney because the experience is different" and "I want to go to Disney but I don't feel comfortable spending the money on it."

The discounting will help convince the second group to go anyway.

Trust me…overcrowding isn’t Disney’s biggest problem keeping people from visiting.

I love Disney yes, but I complain because I experience it, often, numerous times every year, for many many years, I see and feel all the trends, spend a ton of money and more of it each year, and things just don’t feel to be going the right direction in some cases or up in value and excitement as much as the prices are

Lots of bad decisions and mismanagement are plaguing Disney and lack of new offerings and expansion are going to hurt over the next several years I’m afraid

....things just don’t feel to be going the right direction

Then why continue going? If you've been continually going for your own personal reasons, I'm sure there are lots of others that also have their own reasons to keep going.

Don't worry. They will be fine.

I think it’s both

Don’t dismiss the problem with genie and planning

They flatlined on bookings EXACTLY when a downturn would show from the introduction of genie…15-18 months.

It’s possible

Honestly…it’s better for us “battle veterans”…we don’t want crowds…far from it. Crowds blow.

But if you want to retire off that stock you way overpaid for?….nah…not heading that direction.
Don't worry. They will be fine.
Doesn’t mean Bob won’t quit…I mean be fired…I mean “both”

I just recently returned from 12 day trip. Memorial Day weekend was low in my opinion but the crowds did pickup some that week (after the holiday). I think spring break crowds were higher though and all in all other than Disney springs on the weekend evenings it was more manageable than expected
Disney springs used to be a place to get your Disney fix without having to pay to get into a theme park and I do remember when it was down town Disney it was always super mobbed on the weekends . I presume over time and it’s transition to springs made it less Disney and more shopping mall.

That was Memorial Day…

Springs packed
Parks and resorts near empty

The problems with Genie+ and reservations and hyperplanning are all related to overcrowding and manging demand though. They are all self correcting. If people were significantly deterred from visiting due to those factors, they wouldn't be needed anymore. You don't need to have a premium skip-the-line option if there are few lines long enough to justify concern.

Bob isn't going to be fired. They do need to find a replacement but I suspect that Bob will go back to being in some "chairman" position for a few years after to make sure this transition goes well.

Basically the same parks as before…just half empty cause it’s 200% the price of 10 years ago

That was all part of the plan though. Are people willing to pay a premium price for a park that isn't packed to the gills full of people paying a discounted price? If attendance is down, even 30 to 40%, but revenues are still sky high, as they have been the last few quarters, then Disney isn't going to care at all about how empty the parks feel.

I have experienced, mobbed.

I gotta experience what this "half empty" feels like.

I suspect it sounds better than what it really is.
Back in the drunken haze nightly at the adults only Pleasure Island , it was half empty during the day when most areas were closed. During the debauchery nights then PI was packed with drunken guests including me.

I don’t know that the problems with Genie+ are entirely related to crowds. Anecdotally it seems to have much lower satisfaction ratings that FastPass, even though both are crowd management tools. Personally I don’t like it as much because of the “gamble” aspect - you never know what you’re going to get so it’s hard to plan your day around unknown selections that may or may not pop up when you go for your next Lightning Lane. I also feel that overall I got much more solid rides with FP vs. Genie. With Genie, really only your 7 am pick is fairly certain to be worth it.

The problems with Genie+ and reservations are hyperplanning are all related to overcrowding that they still require park reservations and Genie+ is a fastpass tool they now charge for while also now charging extra for the most popular attractions in each park when it all used to be included in your park ticket and was easier to plan and manage ahead of time and not 7am and throughout the day
