They would have been much better off if they had not done genie…but do smaller “pay as you go” fastpasses on anything with a long line and take the fastpass out of the ones that didn’t need it.

You want to pay $50 to ride mine train 4 times? Go ahead…you want to do it once for$12, ride haunted mansion 3 times, eat and be happy? Go ahead.

It wouldn’t result in less money.
Maybe you could put those "pay as you go" fast passes in a book of "tickets" and then buy more "tickets" if you wanted to ride more. In fact they could charge more based on the type of ride. If it was a big ride, let's call those E level tickets, you could charge more. ;)

I don't think everybody wants one type of vacation, as in they always go to the same place or eat at the same restaurant, but it's more about the style of vacation. If you're the type like me that wants to pack in multiple activities, shops, museums, etc. Lounging around a ship, eating and relaxing, that doesn't appeal to me personally.
My last sailing on Celebrity was supposed to go to Israel for one day at Haifa, two in Jerusalem follow by two days in Alexandria, Egypt, then onto Ephesus, Turkey. As I boarded the boat on Oct 6th with a sea day on the 7th before we hit all of these ports, we didnt end up there, for obvious reasons. Instead we did the Greek Isles of Santorini, Mykonos, and Rhodes as well as Cyprus in addition to Turkey. There wasnt a whole lot of lounging in that trip, and it wasnt planned that way, even with the original itinerary. I think the original itinerary was even harder as it was a much more intensive trip with multiple days at the pyramids, the biblical sites, etc. A cruise can be as much about activities as you want to make it and depending on where you are going. Also makes sense with people supposedly doing more “resort only” vacations.

I know your post was about the cruises, but I know once upon a time some people did do "resort only" vacations at WDW - I cannot fathom just how crazy it would be to do that today. I mean, the places you could go on and practically be waited on hand and foot for the same price that Disney charges for hotel rooms and food...

Pretty fabulous actually. I loved Rhodes, Santorini was tough, there is a lot of hiking up and down on that island, bring good walking shoes, Ephesus, Turkey was incredible!!! We had the best tour guide there and she knew EVERYTHING!!! Definitely something I'd do again, although not for a while I think. Athens was amazing, great friendly people wonderful historic city, amazing food, definitely would go back there for sure, it was great ( that is where the ship departed from) Our hotel overlooked the Parthenon and was around the corner from the slopes of the Acropolis. Great location for sightseeing for sure. Marie

Exactly what I meant - return to that model. It can also weed out the less popular attractions that are then targeted for a more popular,.profitable replacement.

There are always long lines for the most popular rides, aren’t there? I remember 90-minute waits for Splash and Space in the mid-90’s when it was all standby. We just skipped those rides at the time.

Those queues constantly moved and there was a sense of progress. Not like this take 20 steps, wait 3 minutes, another 20 steps, wait three minutes crap.

Okay but you waited just as long. It seems some people think the lines are somehow going to become shorter if the parks were to go all-standby.

In some sense they would because the people who could best deal with long lines in the Florida heat would get to ride those rides while others would skip them. The reason we skipped them back in the 90’s is that our kids were pretty young and my mom was not lol.

It was definitely our choice though. Now that we’re the older ones and our grandkids are very young, I’m happy to have an alternative to the long lines. But that’s just us; I’m sure all-standby wouldn’t be so bad for others.

That's a better way to visit Israel via cruise. When a family member visited Israel he knew to advise Tel Aviv airport staff to not stamp his USA passport. It is nothing but heartache when you visit Dubai and have a " private interview" after airport staff see an Israeli stamp on your passport. Don't bother to go visit Lebanon. You will not be allowed to clear airport customs if they see an Israeli stamp on your passport.

Great information but I am staying out of the Middle East for the forseeable future. I have an Italy Cruise with a stop or two in Croatia and Montenegro, and next year Alaska on a group cruise with the Kingdom Konsultant Team and our clients who want to join in. I am going to try to get a sailing that includes Key West as well and maybe one longer cruise. There is a nice Canadian one out of Boston that looks good. There is another one that goes into the Scandanavian region that looks pretty awesome. I know my usual travel buddy wants to do Spain and Portugal so I have a lot to choose from before attempting the Middle East again. Marie
