Is attendance really down at WDW this or…

Does WDW still have those red cards that CMs would hand to people to carry through a crowded queue at the beginning to turn in at the end? I always assumed those were for fine tuning the posted wait times. We got those a few times and it was always a Barney Fife-like thrill to be chosen to carry one. :)

I was there Thanksgiving week and it was bad… i posted a pic of Space Mountain. Posted wait time was 80 minutes i believe. The line was shorter than the Genie line… basically a walk on. Granted that was absurd but it was the worst ive ever seen with the posted wait times vs what realistically they were
There is no logic as to why the posted wait time at the start the day would be 80 min.

Are they posting random numbers at the start of the day or are the times left over from the previous evening?

Disney has kinda broken the trip planning process for me as there are random "pockets" in the day where waits drop & ride dramatically.

Hagrid at Uni is an "automatic" 60 on park open even if it's not a busy day and they kind of go from there. Theme park ops are weird and I'm very thankful we have the team at Touring Plans to acquire data. Who knows what would happen if they weren't tracking actuals.

The posted wait at Slinky Dog was 45 minutes at park opening on 2023-12-31.
Right…when it’s impossible in this universe to actually be in the line

That’s the “baseline”…and it goes up from there when humans show up.

Is that “conservative” or “exploitive”?

I typically find those two words Are more less interchangeable

That was NOT intentional…I assure you

About a 99% chance it was a breakdown or medical incident
Yeah. I’m pretty sure it was a break down. Which is an entirely different issue. Over two days, I had 7 rides break down. Navi River Journey the animatronic just stopped moving right as I was about to pass it, dinosaur broke down when I was in line, got escorted off test track, spaceship earth stopped mid ride for about 25 min, Pooh broke down and I was escorted off, and pirates broke down while I was in line as well. At least I got a few free genie + for undesirable rides

As far as I know, no. The red cards were a (much?) more accurate reflection of wait times, and for some reason Disney did away with them. I believe there was a post or two about why but I cannot recall the reasons given outside of there being some technology involved with the wait time estimates now.

I don't think they do. If they do, it's not the primary means of estimating wait times; it's a backup or check against another means.
