Love the counter service in Harry Potter land.

But it's the dumbest thing EVER that I can't have Diet Coke with my lunch.
Yea, that was one of the requirements JK wanted and got, only themed drinks in the lands.

We used to fill up our Universal refillable cups before entering the land.

Harry Potter land was pitched to Disney and the reason the deal did not happen was because JK wanted too much creative control and Disney said no.

Oh, I get all of that.

Still think it's the dumbest thing ever.

And I'm glad they did based on our experience...

We loved the immersive nature of HP, but only insofar as the look/feel was really neat. We HATED that there were almost no places to sit/rest, the walkways were too cramped with a scooter, and the shops were pretty much inaccessible if you couldn't walk on your own power. Had it been more open/user friendly for those using w/c or scooters it might not have been a one and done for us.

I respectfully disagree that it will take several years. Our family has already stopped the paradigm. We don't go anymore, our grown kids don't go anymore, the grandkids say "No way" , and therefore the great grands will not have that yearly disney trip to relate to. But they all say that Universal is where they want to go now for a theme park experience. They also are going to more National parks and the beaches than ever before. So, the wheel has already started turning, IMO.
But that's more anecdotal. Full disclosure the people I know are dvc members so it's a bit different.
My family of 7 just did a vacation in September, our next one is in February. My next door neighbor has 3 little girls, they've got two trips on the books for 2024 .
Now we always went other places so it never was either or. Lol the Jersey shore has gotten so ridiculously expensive (4k for a week at the shore, are you kidding?) That the Philadelphia inquire had an article about how people here are GOING to wdw instead.

Now to be clear, no one is under the illusion that it's not expensive,

Anecdotally, I wonder if things are shifting towards Disney’s “classic” audience of families with young children (I have a preschooler and both sets of grandparents are nearing the end of their travel years - we also have two trips planned within the next year, although thankfully only paying for one.) Our travel options are just more limited - it’s not like we can relax on a tropical beach with a fancy drink or casually stroll the streets of Europe, because we’re always corralling lil bundle ‘o energy. For us Disney looks pretty appealing because it will keep him occupied in an environment that’s also appealing to us, and hey, nobody’s driving, so maybe we can sneak an avocado martini in before we jump on rides at Epcot. For people without kids or with older kids who have more options, I can see them losing patience with Genie+ faster and moving on to Hawaii, Costa Rica, Europe, etc.

What??? I love diet coke. Don't they serve it with the meal? Just wondering, and will be at Universal in about a month. I have eaten at both restaurants in HP but don't remember the drink selections. I've gotta have my diet coke!!!:)

Yes, Eliza, that is anecdotal, which is everyone's personal experience. Just like what you talked about. That is yours and their anecdotal experiences.
I know there are a lot of people who are ok with Disney, and that's great.
But there cannot be ignored the amount of people who are not returning to disney.
I think that once the long time disney fanatics (like we used to be:) have decided that the cost does not equate the experience anymore, then there will be a decline in families for generations. Unless.... they change some of their unpopular decisions that are affecting the parks now. When families don't want to go back, then the children/grandchildren of these people probably won't have that same love of disney either, and so it goes through the generations.

As I have stated, in our family that has happened now. In several families that I know that has happened now. Yes, that is anecdotal, but it is happening. I'm glad that you know people who are still going, that's great, but the reality is that a lot of people are not happy and are not going (maybe not as much as before, or maybe not at all). In the end, the loss of these people who have loved disney and have gone religiously will be felt. In our situation, we have grown kids, grands, and great grands who will not be going back at this point. They have found other places that they love, and they have other interests besides Mickey and Minnie.

It all saddens me. We were the people who everyone came to for advice on WDW. We were known as Disney fanatics and we took trips annually or more when we could. We talked about our love disney to everyone and took our kids and grandkids. At least our grown kids and grandkids will have wonderful memories of Disney from those days. They are making more memories at other places now. I would love to return to disney for the nostalgia, but not until things change to back to the way disney was (great customer service, rides that didn't break down at this disgusting rate, the week long disney school for the new CM's, good affordable food, etc, etc), or at least close to the way it was..

I sincerely hope that things change for the better at WDW because it was a big part of our lives for a long time, and we had wonderful memories of those times. Now? We are making memories at Universal and other places. We have found our wonderful National Parks, other states and historic towns (Charleston for one), and other activities. I know disney has never been cheap, but we didn't mind spending the money when we felt the return on investment was fantastic. I also know other places charge a lot more now too, but it matters if our ROI is worth the cost at those places too. Hopefully, one day it will be again For Us.

add

-Amount of characters being reduced at character meals with the prices being increased

-Removal of all characters in Town Square

-Entertainment reductions at hard tickets

In 2017, dinner at Chef Mickeys was $50, adjusting for inflation that is $63.37. I believe dinner right now is $66?

You get the same level of character interaction. I think people need to really consider inflation in all these complaints.

That…and Disney screwed the pooch on the pitch from my understanding.

I thought the counter service at the Harry Potter lands were good, but that was when they first opened.

Did the quality go down?

The Potter quick service is great, with decent pricing as well for the quality/atmosphere. But they struggle outside of the Wizarding World. Their pizza is decent, but the value at WDW's is much better as you get a side salad as well for a lower price. Thunder Falls and Cafe La Bamba are pretty decent options, but their service can be spotty.

Two sides to that story…
The other is Disney - drunk off their Pixar - wanted to do almost nothing with it.

The equivalent of the pixie hollow part of fantasyland…which of course they never built anyway

For bonus points: what was it in 2010?
