Inflatable Snowglobes

Has anyone seen the new giant inflatable snowglobe Christmas decorations that are now being sold? All the big retail stores (Lowe's, K-Mart, Sears, Wal*Mart, Target, etc.) have different versions and in different sizes ranging from as small as 24" up to 12' in diameter.

Here's a typical example:

  • Create a dramatic Christmas scene in your front yard this season with a self-inflating 6’ snowglobe
  • The globe’s interior lights up and showers a never-ending gentle snowfall
  • A traditionally outfitted snowman and 2 penguins reside inside the snowy interior, greeting all passersby
  • The included AC adapter powers the two 43-watt fans
  • For indoor/outdoor use; made of nylon and plastic; 29Lx25Hx20W"

Yeah, kind of cool concept, but I don't think they're worth the $200 or whatever they're selling at right now.

It'll be interesting to see if this sort of thing is out next year.

They were $128.00 at Wal-Mart. One fear of mine is if the cat decides to sharpen his claws on it? The inflatable pool we got from Wal-mart this summer was patched from Ariel trying to catch something........Katrina wound up catching it with a tree :(
I did get the Snoopy on his doghouse inflatable at K-Mart; I can't resist anything Peanuts.

I just bought the Snoopy one from CVS (not sure if those are located nationally or not) for $70 plus my Mom had a coupon for $5 from her CVS points. I've loved Snoopy since I was a little kid so I had to have it! This one is only 4 ft tall which is better for me than the other huge ones. It's going to be our first Christmas decorating our new home so I wanted to get something a little extra special!

I've seen those and I am sure John wants one. As a rule we usually wait until that kind of thing goes on clearance and then we have it for next year.

One of our neighbors has the snow globe plus about 8 other inflatables on his postage-stamp size lawn already. It really looks tacky!
I'm more of a candles -in-the-window type myself. :o

Could 9 inflatables be any more tacky than those plastic "wooden" soldiers, Santa Claus, etc figures that were popular in the 80's ?

They have one at Costco that I want to try out, but it would probably get stolen from the front yard. Last year we bought an 8 foot tall inflatable snowman and put it on the back deck. It "traumatized" the cat into not using the litter box though (the vet's words, not mine!) so we had to take it down.

They have one on display at the local Wal-Mart.

I saw the greeter try several times to keep a kid from shaking it while his mom stood in the checkout line, completely oblivious to little Jimmy.

I used to be scared ____*tless of this big inflating/deflating witch the local Woolworth used to put up every Halloween. I'd close my eyes anytime we walked by the store, and if mom ever tried to make me go in there during October, it was ON.

Then they'd put up basically the same thing every December, but that one looked like Santa Claus. I had no problem with that one.

I miss the plastic goodies from the 80's :(
I always wondered where people who had hundreds of them on their front lawns stored them off-season. They had to have taken up an awful lot of room.
