Inferno Barge Explosion??

About two years ago I was walking out of mexico during the fireworks and noticed one of the smaller barges was roaring on fire. I felt like I was the only one that thought it was out of sorts. It wasnt till there were boats rushing out till people took notice. I dont think it exploded but it was on fire pretty bad.

Whatever can go wrong probably will.

Just and update on this. The problem was with the air launch system on the inferno barge. The pyro fired whilst still inside the launch tube. Thankfully nobody was injured.

Both air launch systems (on the UK pavilion and on the inferno barge), have been pulled from the show whilst investigations are ongoing.

So then to dumb it down for those of us familiar with the show, but not necessarily all the technical aspects of it... How will this effect how the show is seen temporarily?

We leave in 5 days to head down, and I'm just wondering what to expect.

Since no one was injured, I have a feeling all the elements will be back within 5 days. They should be able to figure out what happened and make adjustments in a timely fashion. They have some very talented and skilled people on staff!

nobody is inferno burn off happens when some guests are in the park but not many maybe it happend when they were refueling
The burn off does take place with many guests in the park every Thursday during EMH. If you would have read the thread you would know that it was not the burnoff or an explosion of the inferno itself, but rather a piece of pyro on the Inferno barge that is launced using the ALF system.

I can confirm that all air-lanch fireworks are down for the count. Yesterday, the initial over-the-crowd came from the lagoon's shore, just like the perimeter shells. Also, you could clearly see the first big bang being fired off via gunpowder charge (no air launch) from the maxi barges.

Was the inferno there.

If it`s just the air launch system that`s been pulled and you`ve never seen the show you probably won`t notice any difference - the first 2 shells of the show will be more noticable before they appear compared to the normal show.

Regarding the `explosion` behind China quoted earlier; isn`t that where Epcots Pyro bunker is (by the dock)?

I, too, was in EPCOT at the time of the "event," and can confirm XS's report. In fact, I was in the Friendship boat that is in XS's picture at the time of the explosion. It was about 4:45 PM. A loud single explosion (boom) was heard with very little, if any, light flash associated with it. A piece of metal plating about 3 feet x 3 feet shot into the air about 25 feet up and landed in the water about 50 feet away, near one of the other barges. There was no fire on the barge and as soon as the original ball of smoke dissipated, there was no more smoke originating from the barge. Immediately after the explosion three work boats easch holding about 3 pyotechies raced to the barge. Some of the pyrotechies appeared to be talking on 2-way radios while examining the barge. It didn't appear that anyone was on the barge at the time, and the closest pyrotech boat was about 25 feet away. Over the next hour or so, no other pyrotech or emergency boats entered the area and the original ones stayed in the area (i.e. no one was pulled from the water onto a boat that raced away to get medical aid and no other boat raced in to give medical aid or do rescue work). Our Friendship launch continued on its original way and the two CMs comments and behavior indicated that the explosion was definately out of the ordinary. Illuminations was run that night.

Sorry for the long post, but I hope that sheads some light on things.

Yea, all the pyro is stored right behind China. I'm pretty sure it's the storage place for all of the parks' pyro.

How appropriate that they would store the fireworks in the place from where the originated...

The pyro for Illuminations and the barges are stored behind China. However I don't think the pyro for the other parks is stored there. There is a large Fireworks compound west of the Magic Kingdom.

I thought that`s what he meant - WDW`s main bunker is elsewhere.
