Inferno Barge Explosion??

Inside the inferno barge??

Unless the inferno barge has a fairly deep draft there is no room for people inside the inferno barge. There are people inside the Globe-o-vision though. I have seen them going in about an hour before show time.

I just got back from Epcot. Straight from a RoE tech:

"There was a pyro malfunction yesterday. No one was hurt. It is being investigated."

That was all he would say, but it's interesting to note that as of 6 PM today the inferno barge had not been brought out into the lagoon.

I was there during the EXPLOSION! It was Sunday the 18th around 4:30-5:00pm. We were outside of Japan, when it went off. This was no staged burn or new effect. A mortar went off on the ground. It was soo loud, it literally shook the ground. The second it happend I looked out to the lagoon and could see it clearly. A piece of metal was soaring through the air, probably 30-40 feet up and a huge black smoke cloud was rising. The support boats immediatly hit the throttle and raced to the barge, to see what happened. Luckily, no one was on the barge when it went off or they would have been seriously injured or killed. I took out my camera and got a picture as soon as I could. You can see the smoke still coming off the barge in the photo. Photo Link

What X-S said is exactly what happened. I was at RoE tonight and talked to one of the pyros, and said that it was from a pyro (not the fire explosions) and that the barge is out indeffinitely. They said it's really badly damaged, but couldn't say much else.

So, there you have it!

One of the techs said earlier tonight that there was no explosion. It was something with the pyro, no flames, no sinking.

Yesterday, the barge didn't work. No flames from it. I wonder if this is related? It's still not clear what happened, to me at least.

EDIT: Sorry, I misread Android-XS's post... Thought he said this happened today... Now I know they're related :p

Thats really weird. When I was at Epcot on Friday sometime in the afternoon I heard a couple of loud bombs and a few pieces of pyro went off from behind China. I thought something must have went wrong back there but didn't think to post it. I wonder if it may have been related, such as it might have been the same barge.

Official word: Regular equipment testing, no one was hurt, the show will be modified as the show elements involved are pulled for investigation.

Ok, well here's my thought on this. In the picture, you can see the smoke going up, and that people are walking towards it, which points out how quickly Android-XS took the picture. Now at that point, there are at least 4 support boats on the lake. Doesn't anyone else think that is just a bit excessive if they weren't working on somthing (And probebly testing too)

Testing or not, something happened that shouldn't have. I'm glad that no one was hurt and hope that everything gets sorted out.

That's the reason why you don't find too many old powder monkeys with all their fingers!

Sorry guys I know nothing. This is the first I heard. But it goes to show you the danger of the stuff we work with everyday. Luckily no one was hurt or killed. Most acccidents with pyro don't usually have a good ending.

I got an amazing chance back when RoE just came out to work a night with the crew. The fire barge (They refered to it as either Dan D's barge or Dante's Barge, can't remember exactly, I'm hard of hearing) is pushed out by the boats every night and has no room for a crew member. They pull it up onto land to work on it. The Earth barge on the other hand it piloted out to the floating dock during the show by a crew member who waits out that barge's fireworks in a metal shelter.

Just and update on this. The problem was with the air launch system on the inferno barge. The pyro fired whilst still inside the launch tube. Thankfully nobody was injured.

Both air launch systems (on the UK pavilion and on the inferno barge), have been pulled from the show whilst investigations are ongoing.

It happened around the time the barges are being moved into position. It is not unusal to see many support boats working at that time.
