sorry to bring up mission impossible here again on a indy thread, but i did notice it made approx $7 mil in previews last night. wasn’t that about the same as indy? i think it’ll have a bigger opening than indy since it comes out today vs a friday opening, but i don’t think it’s going to be as big as some predictions say. we’re going to a 10pm show tonight & granted only 22-24 seats have been sold.

Well, this is awkward... 🤨

Indy 5 fell to 4th place yesterday with Mission: Impossible previews starting (on a Tuesday???) but Sound of Freedom came in second. And look at those theater counts; Indy 5 still in 4,600 theaters nationwide, proving Disney had convinced theater chains they'd have big turnout for Burbank's mega-budget summer tentpole.

This was not how this was supposed to go for Professor Jones.

Paramount announced the new MI wouldn’t be available digitally before Oct 10.

Universal is giving Oppenheimer a 100-day theatrical window.

Iger has said he’s committed to the theatrical business but he hasn’t gone out of his way to prove it. Indy 5 would’ve been a good chance to say this movie won’t be on D+ for 60-70 days. I don’t even care for the movie but Disney bungled the release every step of the way.

An Disney-branded film more comparable to MI:7 and Oppenheimer in terms of theatrical window would be Wish and (maybe) Elemental, as Disney have reportedly considered returning to pre-pandemic theatrical window for both films, and already confirmed that for Wish.

Anyway, if Indy 5 have a good theatrical run, i believe i deserved for longer theatrical window.

Canada is included with the domestic numbers, they don't split them out for US/Canada (as far as I know).

When I check my app, it is playing in a total of 6 theatres, ranging from 8km to 91 km away, at least that I can see.

Oh, you're right. I just checked The Numbers and that's how they do the USA numbers. That doesn't sound fair to Canada at all, as Mexico gets called out as its own separate box office. You could blame the language difference, but that doesn't explain Quebec.

And knowing Quebec, that would probably just make them mad if they found out Mexico gets its own column. ;)

Box Office numbers are now out for yesterday, Wednesday July 12th. Indy dropped -35% and Red Door dropped -27% from Tuesday, but Sound of Freedom actually got even stronger with a +16% increase from Tuesday.

Mission: Impossible had two days of "Previews" lumped together on this chart; about $7 Million on Tuesday and $8 Million on Wednesday.

Is this really how Indy 5 is going to spend its upcoming second full weekend, already dropping down to 4th place???

Unless something changes radically with the trajectories of these top 5 movies, it seems Indy has already fallen to 4th place on its second weekend out.

Watch the Haunted Mansion outperform Indy.
We already know Barbie will.

Well their box office releases are losing substantial money…
…and they’re losing subscribers from their gold mine streaming service that will make money “in May”…

…so you do the math there

Saw M:I7 last night. That was the most fun I've had in the theater since Spiderman. The stunts are incredible. It hands down blows Indy out of the water. Hayley Atwell plays the same type of character as Helena in Indy but plays it far better and smarter than Waller-Bridge ever could dream. Much better written character. Tom Cruise is old but shown at the top of his game. He is driven and determined to carry out the mission. He still the star of the movie and is not shown as a pathic old man laying around his apartment in his underwear.

Let's stop with the age thing. I don't know how knowledgeable you are about athletics but I provide an example of age not mattering, it's about fitness, health, mental health, training and attitude "In 2018 at the age of 85 years and 328 days, Hiromu Inada went to Kailua-Kona in Hawaii and set a new mark for the oldest person to complete the world championship Ironman – a feat beyond most people decades younger than him." I personally am over 70 and run marathons, I cannot do 6-minute miles anymore, that went away some time ago but it's about going the distance, age does not matter. There are an awful lot of 20- and 30-year-olds that are decrepit wrecks.

That's very true. I played tennis with a guy in his late 60s that had better cardio than the 18 year old girl he trained. BUT, there is a difference between feats of cardio, and things where you get hit and bashed around. I'll state again, just my personal thoughts on why I didn't try and find some time for it in theaters (which fully admit is insanely difficult this summer), but I'm used to Indy swinging around, falling, having fist fights, etc. I can't imagine an 80 year old fist fighting some guys then falling down a pit. It's very possible that is not in the movie at all, but it's also part of what I love of the originals too. Honestly, I'm kind of bummed it's going so poorly. The franchise deserves a nice send off. I may not be going out of my way to see it (though I do fully plan to see this one at some point at home), but I wish it did well enough that it could at least expand as a cultural icon.

Domestic Box Office is now out for Thursday July 13th and it does seem to portend where Indy 5 will end up on its third weekend; down in 4th place and collapsing rather fast domestically and globally. Ouch. :grumpy:

And look at the Per Theater take for Indy compared to Mission: Impossible which is reportedly underperforming, and also the Per Theater take for Sound of Freedom which is reportedly overperforming. Double Ouch. :grumpy::grumpy:
