Imagineers at future MI coaster building.

This has been so hard to get into my head and heart... I wish it was still the operation of the Imagineers and the Can-Do people, making everything happen the way they did in the good old days. Not anymore... it's a corporation, in every sense of the word. Such a tragedy.

You know, I had difficulty with it too at first but there are some good things that come from it believe it or not. You are able to get more specialized people to do very specialized things. It greatly reduces production cost allowing for bigger and better attractions, resorts, what have you. I just wished there could have been something else for me to do out of the Celebration office until the next project that called for my specialty, you know?

off topic - where do you work? I love talking to cast members, makes me all nostalgic! I loved being an Imagineer, was a life long goal. But I will tell you something; nothing was better than driving safaris (minus the heat and the paycheck!)

Really Epcot was in better shape a decade ago so that would be 1999-2000.

TLS: Was a ghost town
WOL: falling apart:
JII: This was when they redid the ride withpout Figment JITYI
MS: wasn't open and Horizons was gone
SSE: WHile it had an ending needed an overhaul
UOE: still the same as to day.

So I fail to see how Epcot was in better shape a decade ago.

1994 is the date where it started to go downhill. If I had to pinpoint an exact time, it would be when they put HISTA in the Imagination pavilion and changed the name of the park to Epcot 1994.

That was the start but taking Figment out of JII was the straw that broke the camels back imo.

Figment was a big hit to me and my family. I loved Figment as a child, we even named our boat "Figment."

Then the closing of Horizons, all down hill. Horizons needs to be reopened w/ new rides.

Future World needs more rides.

That was in 2000. I'd be more inclined to use the prior closings of the World of Motion (1996) and Horizons (1999).

As far as Horizons if they spent the money in 94 they were supposed to it wouldn't have gone but as much as I miss WOM TT is an adequate replacement. The only thing they need to do to TT to make it fit in FW is change the preshow and retheme the post show from a car dealership to testing concepts on the future of transportation.

No, Fig virtually left the park in October 1998.

Some would say the park was okay in the mid 90`s, with SSE Irons being new and the fountain looking good. Some would also say with Innoventions - and the first, clumsy version of its layout - the park did begin going downhill in the mid 90`s.

Was the ride down that long? A full year? I've tried, to the best of my abilities, to remove this whole era of the parks from my memory. I guess Figment was gone before Horizons by a month or two.

I still say the World of Motion was the turning point.

the wonderful journey into your imagination took just one year from start to finish, opening october 1st 1999. And wouldn`t make it to its 3rd birthday.

ugh - What a disaster. I'd consider it the #2 all-time non-fatal Disney disaster ever (after DCA). I'd have the closures of Horizons and WoM as 3 and 4.

Lack of attractions and capacity. Built-on-the-cheap.

Every new park has a lack of attractions nowadays. To have about 8% more attendance from last year and maintain 4.9 million visitors in this economy is not a failure whatsoever.

And I've hear quite great things about what HKDL has. The lack of attractions is being addressed in the massive expansion.

HKDL also has an amazing Adventureland, a whole new spin on T-Land, and is probably the best park for Halloween.

Futureworld is in a far better state than it was a decade ago. It`s future has not looked better since the early 90's. Over the next 5 years it may even be close to as good as it was in the early 90's.

DHS is in most need of capacity and an overall cohesive theme. DHS suits and TDO know this all too well. The parks total THR is the worst for space/attractions vs capacity. This is known and is planned to be addressed as a matter of some urgency.

Could you expand on what Future World will be like in 5 years? (Imagination refurb? Plaza redo? Nemo going? WoL replacement?) I'd love to know :D

How is HKDL a disaster? It's brand new and it is very well-recieved.

It's the only Disney park that doesn't dominate the market its in and has never achieved its initial attendance expectations. It's beaten by Ocean Park, which is opening its own mega expansion to compete with Disney's.
