Imagineers at future MI coaster building.

Imagineering is so well known that it'd be foolish to go to WEDway.

I wonder why Lasseter would care so much about what the name of WDI should be? :/

Riding in your own door vehicle that may or may not be powered by riders' screams is pretty creative imo

I disagree. The coaster's apparent lack of creativity is a reason I've questioned this attraction idea from the get-go. Although movie-tie attractions like Toy Story Midway Mania, Buzz Lightyear, and Monster's Inc. Laugh Floor all borrow characters and elements from the movies they represent, they at least present new experiences and plots that can't be directly simulated by watching their respective movies. Creating attractions to the order of the Monster's Inc coaster requires little more creativity than popping a Pixar movie in the DVD player, watching it and thinking "This would make a good ride!" It wouldn't take an Imagineer to come up with attractions like this one.

Why don't you let them (possibly) build it first.........

WED was changed for a reason. WDI has stuck and is a household name.

So .... are the great attractions like Pirates, Haunted Mansion, Tower of Terror bad?

I mean in Tower you go up.... then down.... then up.... then down....

Pirates are just.... well.... pirates! They're drunk and rowdy!

Haunted Mansion is filled with ghosts! ... yup

HOW UNCREATIVE- on paper.

And, how many of these (and countless others) rides are based on Disney movies? Yet they seems to be handling the shifts of time (and unfortunate attitudes) pretty well.....

A little off-topic but generally fits with the tenor of this thread, adding/fixing stuff up at DHS...

What is the opening date for the new Stark Expo section of DHS? Were the permits filed O.K.?

I'm completely out of the loop on this one. I don't even know what Stark Expo is. I don't recall posting any permits about it.

I wonder how long they will wait before they announce Monsters.

If it's true, I would imagine they'd wait and announce it when they need another publicity boost.

If it's imminent, perhaps shortly after HP opens at UO. Or, if they think they can survive that shift in attendance, perhaps they'll wait and get the Disney name back in the news later this fall or early next year.

it wouldn't surprise me to see them hold off for the next D23 Expo, which I believe will be in 2011.....

I would agree with this. Even if they have greenlit this project - which we're still not sure of - they're probably only in preliminary design stages (assuming the Imagineers spotted at Soundstage 1 were really there for MI). If this is the case, they're quite a ways away from having something solid to move forward with.

They don't tend to market new attractions that they haven't solidified the design of, or technology used. Disney doesn't like to retract statements or carrots that they've dangled, so they'll make sure plans are etched in stone and they have a reasonable timeline before they announce anything.

And again, I think they'll wait until a meaningful point in time. D23 would be good, if nothing comes sooner (like UO stealing all of their glory). They don't announce things like new rides on a whim. Those types of announcements are very strategically timed - and other than the opening of HP, I don't see any marked milestones in the near future.

Well, they do have the 40th Anniversary for MK to consider (although obviously the ride wouldn't be completed by then). But I could see them having already greenlit this project as part of a "five-year" plan for the parks. They have the plans ready for the coaster, they just need the final approval and funding....

If construction was to start now, a 2012 opening would not be unreasonable. From what I hear, the coaster is much farther than preliminary design stages.

Really? I've seen online in more than a couple places some work has been done.

I believe there's been prep work done in the potential site for the coaster, but actual construction won't begin for some time. Too many other projects in the queue right now ahead of it...
