Imagineer Tom Fitzgerald takes over the creative direction of Epcot

WDI has wanted to get Epcot back on track for a while. The statement is not wishful thinking. Fitz is being shuffled for a reason. Tom has a love for Epcot, and understands the park. Disney moves slowly, but Epcot is on the radar.
I realize you can't answer all questions, so disregard this if answering is going to get you in trouble. I'll try to ask these as vaguely as possible in case you can drop any hints, maybe you can bestow a little hope to the forum-

1- Assuming we get new attractions or redos of existing ones, are they going to be more screen based, or will they have more physical elements (actual sets and animatronic figures)?
2- Any danger of more franchise overlays (such as the Frozen speculation for Maelstrom), or is the intention to create original attractions that are more appropriate for the park?
3- Is there any hope for Imagination in particular (perhaps with some input from Tony Baxter as was rumored last year)?
4- I guess for a final question, is there hope that EPCOT could reclaim a considerable amount of the glory it had in the early 90's and before?

I want to be positive, I really do, but it will take something happening to get me on the positive track. For example, paint is relatively cheap, and they've shown they can paint Communicore at night without a need for scrims. Getting that right would be small, but it would be an encouraging sign.

He did say a new DVC was likely at EPCOT;)

All signs point towards new resorts coming. Currently they are constructing new (Enormous) laundry facilities, they just expanded the bus system especially at MK, they are installing major natural gas, water and sewer lines near Epcot now and they are Finally spending money on long neglected Infrastructure projects like road widening.

Im really hoping for the best to come from this too, however Tom is the one (I believe, someone correct me if wrong) that put the darn screens in Spaceship Earth. I understand he has a history and all with the park but unless he has had a change of heart on some things and can override TDO......just skeptical yet.

True TDO could be a roadblock...unless they have a complete overhaul too. We heard rumblings in Spirit's thread that Iger isn't happy with leadership in Orlando. Could today's announcements be part of the rumored shakeup? Maybe just the beginning...

Not known yet. My personal opinion, Disney knows physical sets are a value, so I wouldn't get overly concerned. However, screens are a cheap way to get more for your dollar when building attractions. It's just a matter of integrating them properly.

Yes.

Hope, yes. Have to wait and see if it's realized. But this is a good day for Epcot.

you know in 2007, that touchscreens were still relatively new to the market, right? this installation was more akin to the polished wood flooring on the titanic's grand entryway being pulled up to be replaced with the newest, and most expensive floorcovering of the day... Linoleum.

True, and since articos has hope, I will have hope too lol. But I agree and just wondering about the TDO roadblocks. Its sounding like Burbank is inserting more power going past TDO. Its about time.

OH MY GOD

excuse my language but WDW is totally screwed now. Disneyland gets Scott Trowbridge (Top designer of Islands of Adventure and Wizarding World of Harry potter) and Star Wars projects while WDW gets Tom "I like video screens" Fitzgerald?

Looks like the only American Disney parks I will be visting are on the west coast from now on.

The new paint scheme going into future world seems contradictory to getting Epcot back to its roots.

As for the new paint scheme (ew), we don't know he had anything to do with that. Let's hope not!

I strongly suspect Mr Fitzgerald has been over to EPCOT with a bottle of Tums in hand. We can only hope he'll turn it back around.

Steve in your article you posted on the front page you wrote:

"Disney is poised to begin a major re-Imagineering of Epcot, looking to restore the original intent of the park in both Future World and World Showcase. Tom's extensive experience with WDI should position him well to take on such a project."

What makes you say that?
