Okay, so how many of us see those TV infomercials for cheesy stupid lame brain products and go, "HA! I really doubt that piece of crap actually works!"

Well, I used to be one of those people. NO MORE!!

So I, being the lazy bum that I am, hate peeling potatoes... a neccessary task for making my all time super duper favorite meal. So, I went out, and bought a Rotato. You know, that thing that spins the potato as it automatically peels it for you? I didn't think it would actually work, but hey, for $10, it was worth a shot.

HOLY CRAP!!! I can now peel a potato in less than 10 seconds!! WITH EASE!! Sure, you still have to cut out the ends, and the black parts, but wow, it's so great!!

Now if only I could get a knife that has more dicing power than the round end of a spoon. I guess next up on the "As seen on TV" list is that knife that can cut through a shoe!

Tyler,
Put your hands up and back away, slowly, from the Flobee, and nobody gets hurt.

Turn off the television, put away your credit card, and come back to the light.

Anyone remember the 1st real infomercial in the late 80's that played all night long all the time, it was "amazing discoveries" with some junky paint system that could paint a whole room with a quart? I would watch those stupid things over and over while trying to sleep and having nothing else on....now my brain is mush.Ron Popeil must die.

I remember watching a show in consumer economics in high school about the 10 best infomercials. Of course almost all of them were made by Ron Popeil. I can't stand any of them. I remember seeing the "Set it and Forget it" rotisserie thingy, the chia pet, and not sure what else but they all annoy me more than anything. I was at my girlfriend's house the other day and turned the TV on in her room and it was HSN, basically one large infomercial all day long. I didn't know why it was on that channel but she said it was so boring that she used it to fall asleep. :hurl: to informercials!

I worked on an infomercial with Kathie Lee and Frank Gifford. They were selling a video on "How to Have a Succesful Marriage". It was very funny (unitentionaly) and it paid well.

Ron Popeil and his father (Sam) became wealthy from sales of kitchen gadgets that have become household words: Dial-O-Matic, Veg-O-Matic, Mince-O-Matic. In 1964, Ronco pulled in $200,000 in sales. In 1968, the company's revenues were $8.8 million.

Take a look at the famous Veg-O-Matic:

*raises hand* I do, Mad! :hammer:

The top shelf of our hall closet is what I like to call the "Homage to the 70s" There's a Pong game, a Super Shooter cookie maker and...a KITCHEN MAGICIAN! It Slices! It Dices! It makes mountains of JULIEN FRIES! (I do still use the Super SHooter though when I make my famous Spritz cookies. All these years later it still works better than the three other cookie shooters I have! )

Tyler I was at the mall today and I thought of you as I was looking for the Rotato in the "As Seen on TV" store. NO luck though. But they did have the Eggstractor!

We had a Veg-O-Matic in the seventies. And it DID work!

I am surprised that no one has mentioned THE original info-mercial (or, at least the one that opened the floodgates): The GINSU KNIFE!

Remember that? It cut through everything! And then cut a tomatoe!

And it was the commercial that gave us all: "and wait, there's more, if you order before midnight tonight..."

Ahh, the good old days! :animwink:
