Just got back from what was a disappointing showing of Illuminations, (Not that I was upset because I get to see it often). The issues started right from the beginning. The show started about 2 minutes after nine and the pre-show music was still playing through the beginning of the opening narration. The opening of the show with the first fireworks didn't go off right. The one pyro that comes from in front of the American pavilion went off but the shells that create the illusion of it exploding did not go off at all.
Then when it came time for the Earth barge to come out it did not rotate at all. About half way through it's few minute solo, it rotated about 1.5 times, and then stopped again and didn't make a single motion for the rest of the show. Too bad for the people who had the view of the Pacific Ocean side of the globe the whole show.
When it came time for the finale, there was no rotation, it didn't open, no fire, and no pyros from the Earth barge, so for that portion there was nothing but music. At this point, I'm sure that the techs just aborted all effects on the Earth barge except for the projections. They probably didn't want to take the chance of it partially opening or getting stuck open, and then not being able to get it backstage through the bridge to the marina.
First of all the park was packed tonight because of the Halloween party over at MK. Tonight I witnessed a few intoxicated guests on what is Opening day of the Food and Wine Festival. The most memorable one was in front of the American Adventure Pavilion. There was a man who was already overly intoxicated who was driving an ECV with one hand and he had another beer in his other hand. He was swerving all over the main pathway, with was very crowded, infront of the funnel cake stand. He finally ran his ECV into another man, who also happened to be carrying a beer. Needless to say the man he ran into lost his balance and spilled his beer all over the man on the ECV. Then there were some not-so-kind words spoken for everyone in the area to hear, who were already all starring at them. Thankfully they were both so drunk that they didn't even know what they were yelling about and went they're own separate ways.
Other than that I had a great day and had a lobster roll and 2 strawberry shortcakes at the America stand for the F&WF.
