Iger Vacations at WDW this week

I heard that too, and was really pleased. It seems like Iger actually takes an interest in vacationing with his Family to these places he is responsible for, unlike a certain ex-Disney CEO.

Actually, the previous CEO enjoyed the parks and resorts plenty and spent a lot of time in them, especially when his kids were younger (and there wasn't so much venom hurled in his direction).

I have no idea why Bob is at WDW now, but my guess -- since he's been noticed -- is to be noticed. Upright CEO and family enjoying the DISNEY MAGIC during tough economic times and due to his tough love costcutting seeing for himself how they're bursting at the seams.

Maybe CNBC can do a live interview with him in front of Cindy's this afternoon?

I don't know how much time Eisner actually spent going to WDW though, he may have been in California most of the time. IMO if you're in control of a vacation destination, actually vacationing there would definitely be good P.R.

Funny. Jay Rasulo has been head of P&R for what ... seven years now? And I don't think he's spent one second of time in a park when it wasn't a choreographed media event/announcement.

Also, I do recall hearing one thing about Walt Disney while watching a special on the 1964 World's Fair...he insisted on standing in line with the guests to make sure he got the same experience his guests did and that any issues he would see first hand.

That's what any good leader should do. I just don't see Iger, Willow and kids standing with the sweaty, stinky masses for two hours to ride Splash Mountain.

~Mmm ... nothing like the smells of packed theme parks~

Personally, if WDW were my career and I spent 40+ hours a week running the place (even if not physically at WDW itself), I would want to find a different place to vacation. The point of vacation is to get away from work, not to spend it there. So I don't fault Eisner at all if he chose to spend his vacations elsewhere. WDW may be a magical place for us, who don't spend our regular time there, but for someone who is intimately involved in the place, I'm sure it's not quite so magical. I love going there, but I'm pretty sure if I lived down in Florida and had all that stuff in my backyard, I would seek out someplace else to vacation, other than the places I see everyday.

Here's another perspective. If WDW was your career, you had little kids who wanted to go, and you knew you had to take a vacation of some sort WDW would be a good choice, particularly for Iger's position. If he's just checking things out it could still be called a "working vacation" so any associated costs (assuming he's paying for anything at all) would be a write-off. Folks who make lots of money loooove write-offs. Plus, if he's not paying for anything then his kids have just had a the nice vacation they wanted and it didn't cost him much of anything. It's a win/win situation. Aaand, I know plenty of dads out there who like to have the chance to show their children what they do, give them all the little inside info, and spend that sort of quality time with them. It makes sense, really.

As for whether or not past CEOs or other high-ups within Disney have vacationed at WDW, if they wanted to truly be "on vacation" I would think they'd try to keep it as low-key as possible so that word didn't get leaked out that they were there at all. Perhaps they *did* visit our beloved WDW but you or I never knew it?

Nope, this visit is "under the Rader". No tag, no Interviews, nothing like that.

And all I was saying is that Iger seems to be visting WDW alot more than Eisner in the last few years, stop reading so much into it...wasn't bashing him or anything.

Nope, not at all...

I wonder what he did at night while on property? I bet he went to the best place to spend time after the parks close...Citywalk:p
See, here's the great thing about being the CEO, you can walk up to the Adventurers Club, and they will let you in even though it is allegedly "closed". Also, you can throw swanky parties in places like the Haunted Mansion stretching rooms. The skies the limit when you're the big cheese.

Ha! I can see it now, A whole bunch of AC fans standing in front of the doors but being blocked off by a chain rope while inside there is a huge party and Bob is standing on the other side of the chains holding a Kungaloosh saying "Come on, you want it? You have to reach for it":P

Yup. I would hope Iger would do this. I know he won't, but it would be nice for him to wait in queues like M:S and Soarin' and see how boring they are. I would also hope he would stand in EE and Kali's queues and see what a truly good queue can do with an attraction.

Of course he won't wait in queue lines. He has the tour book and knows exactly which parks to hit on which days and in what order to do the attractions.

LOL, I'm sure he has the "Unofficial Guide" *ding* and has been listening to tips and tricks on the WDW Today podcast.

He is a smart guy, after all! :animwink:

I dont agree. I think Disney is one of those places where if you reach the top, its not because of money, its lately been b/c of status, but it SHOULD be because of the love.

Some people could be ON WDW property (not in cali) forever and never get tired of it, those are the people that need to be at the top. The problem is bussiness and status savy people reach the top, Disney lovers blog on WDW magic lol

On a semi related note i did a presentation on WDW for one of my hospitality management classes (it's ,my minor, starting the MBA in the fall). My teacher said that not only did he say that he could see my enthuism, but he said he had reps for disney come into his classes to guest speak before, and they wernt as knowledgable. He then proceded to ask me what I'm doing about getting a career in Disney b/c its obviously my passion.........

WDWmagic blogging ......that is all
Surprising. In a good way. The few times I saw him he looked bored out of his mind at the parks. Hopefully he sees WDW needs some new life and decideds to take some action.:)
YES PLEASE!!!!

Did he go to DHS? His kids crying to go to other parks b/c there are only 3 rides, and it now being in 4th place in park attendance HAS to have gotten us the MI coaster babi!
Iger has younger children so I'm sure he killed two birds with one stone. I wonder if the Yeti was working for him?
lol yes
Hope he enjoys himself....and then realizes that WDW needs some major TLC.

*cough MK cough*

*cough EPCOT cough*
oh and you forgot Epcot, DAK, and ....umm....what's that forsaken park called again.....OH YEAH M-G-, oh crap Hollywood studios!

But you gotta remember, walt was a pro who CARED about his product, he wasn't looking for billions of dollars in profit, he was paid in MILLIONS of guest happyness and world wide noterioty (sp?), known for not just doing it, but doing it RIGHT.

Asking to get another man at the top like that is like asking for jesus to come back this easter. When you care about the parks, and you dont have profit tunnel vision, you miraculasly get cut during the 'bad times'. You know, those times when even the water parks sell out.....

If i was in his position, at my age now (probably the main issue), i def would. neglecting the queue is not only like slapping the imageneers hardwork in the face but it's like skipping the pre show. At that point your just going on for the thrill, not for the attraction as a whole.

Maybe he should speak to joe rohde, he might turn him around on the queue
Curious...did he get the 4/3 deal? OR go for the Free DP?....:lookaroun
:ROFLOL:
Think he's staying in the castle?
yeah he was there, i could hear him as I was leaving MK saying

KING IN THE CASTLE KING IN THE CASTLE:king:
