Iger Says Avatar Most Likely 2015, Hints at Marvel, More Pirates and Cars

I'm really surprised there hasn't been a Car's attraction in WDW but at the same time, very happy. Please keep it out. Especially MK! I know turning the speedway into a RS raceway seems like it could work but I know I would not welcome the change at all.

Pirates.... I don't know. We have a classic attraction that remains a favorite for many even after the changes back when the movies came out. Now there's the pirate league. What more can they do? Overkill will be just that. I'll take quality over quantity.

Love Marvel, but not in WDW. I remember how I cringed every time I saw the Power Rangers in MGM (couldn't stand the craptastic show either) & will cringe just as bad if they have Spider-Man meet & greets or similar. No attractions either. It's bad enough the toys are everywhere.

Avatar... I've said before, even with two sequel's it won't have longevity. How relevant do you think those films will be in 10 years. It will never have the generations of fans like Star Wars & we don't even get a land for that. To be honest, I see WWOHP being dead in 10 years too. I see Avatar Land being the next River Country

The sad thing is Disney does the opposite of what most of us like and want to see. A Monsters Inc coaster like the door scene has been rumored for a while & most of us love the concept. I think if it was done right to where it was thrilling but still not too extreme for kids it would be a huge plus for DHS.

Holy cow... :brick:

*speechless*

The meeting is over but you can access the replay at:

http://corporate.disney.go.com/investors/presentations.html

I listened to it live and Iger seemed really annoyed at the two Avatar questions, one involving Star Wars, and he completely blew off the notion of a Star Wars land basically saying they have invested a lot of resources at bringing Star Wars to their theme parks...
No one asked about that blight called Pleasure Island...

Iger comes off as a jerk to me. He probably thinks that he owns the company.

EDIT: OMG, I should have waited to comment until I heard the guy waste 5 minutes about pin trading....no wonder TWDC doesn't listen to us diehard members! /killmenow.

Wasn't there actually a guy once who rambled for like 15 minutes, trying to get dreamfiner put back into Imagination, and told Iger it was proven that Dreamfinder actually saved the lives of sick children?

Yeah, we'll never see dreamfinder again.

I think that was last years. On today's this guy went on for 1 min telling us all of the charter memberships he has, then he proceeded to discuss how he should get all of these discounts and when he goes to places like the Soda Fountain next to El Captain he can't believe he doesn't get a discount there because he loves pin trading and it's a huge business for Disney and the Disney website that tracks releases of new pins such as the (Soda Fountain exclusive ones) is usually wrong and that should be fixed since people travel from all around just to get those pins.

He was all over the place and he didn't make sense and made diehards look bad....terribly bad. If I was going to ask Bobby a question I would make sure it was an intelligent one. Just saying...

Just tuned into the replay of the shareholder meeting and came the the realization, I've never heart Iger speak before.

Obviously Walt was always on TV with "Disneyland" and a score of other shows, and I feel Eisner took every opportunity he could, but does Iger put himself out there as much, or at all?

Maybe this is why when it comes to when we have (a lack of) announcements (at least here) there's always grumbling about the company's management and direction. They've put (some) effort into the online outlets for news, but they lack that singular charismatic figure/voice to bring us a "fireside chat."

Also, perhaps the Pirates are going to take over Pleasure Island?

I mention the exact issue here in 74's thread: http://forums.wdwmagic.com/showthread.php?t=832088

I even wrote a whole Thesis on it and called it Iconic Corporate Leadership

I'm fascinated by the history of WDW, but obviously that's been greatly impacted by the history of the parent company.

(Someone should get started on making a Mad-Men style docu-drama about it!)

I'm also entertained by how the audio feed glosses over the videos shown at the meeting...

I just answered wrote this on another thread as I didn't see this one, but before the hype machine starts about IGER SAYS AVATAR IS COMING, THOSE HATERS DON'T KNOW A THING ETC ETC ... I think I need to add some perspective and common sense here so ...

Iger ONLY addressed Avatar when questioned by a fanboi ... only. He did an entire presentation highlighting P&R and their future and he talked about everything from Shanghai and HKDL to DCL expansion to DCA's makeover to our modest little Fantasyland beautification project. Nothing about Avatar ... not ONE piece of artwork that hides most details to whet appetites. He ONLY left out the largest capital investment coming to the flagship resort ... the one announced at $500 million ... the one for DAK ... the one with tall blue aliens that are slaughtered by people who look a whole lot like the very military types whose families he covets as guests (he did mention the military prominently and then took questions on veterans deals).

In other words, he responded to what some Spirits in the fan community (and behind his own doors in Glendale and Burbank) are saying about the troubled project by saying almost nothing other than basically status quo or what Jim Hill got from his source in PR.

It means nothing ... no, actually, it means less than nothing.

Very telling when this word has been going around for 3-4 months now that he couldn't show off 1-2 renderings and even call them 'possible concepts' for the land ... and he damn well couldn't because the thing is a disaster.

Only surprise from the meeting: no questions about exec compensation and no questions about releasing Song of the South.

~Iger lies~

So we are supposed to take Iger's word for nothing and your word for gold? This is kinda a double standard here...

Yeah, we'll never see dreamfinder again.

Yep, that was last year.

I feel like a lot of people go to shareholder meetings thinking it's some kind of fan forum for naming your Disney wish list, and forgetting it's an event where you have to think/act like a shareholder. :lookaroun I mean I want Song of the South released and Dreamfinder's return as much as the next guy... but why time on eye-rolling minutia like that when you have the opportunity to voice concerns over the live action studio's marketing strategies, the perpetually money-bleeding Disney Interactive Media division (just let it go, Bob), or Iger's shopaholic brand-buying rampage? Stuff that actually matters at a corporate level....

Iger isn't lying to us.

Yet anyway. (ok...he's not lying to us).

But it's more than just Spirit's word against Iger's. Again, you have to look at the entire situation and how it's been presented.

6 months and still nothing to show? No renderings? No napkin sketches even? Hopefully they have enough to atleast make it into the next Imagineering Coffee Table book! We're used to artwork changing, plans being reworked. Features being dropped as the project gets closer, but they've always atleast showed us something.

And that timeline is still questionable. It takes WDI approx. 3 years to build something substantial, and 2015 is 3 years from now. I still haven't seen any good reasons why we should assume everything is right on track especially after hearing that timeline and knowing how WDI operates.

Look no further than here. But you can trade Don Draper for Eisner and Katzenberg. ;)

I am not too concerned over lack of concept art at all. I think that this format may be perhaps the direction Disney is looking to go: Provide little information until as late as possible. FLE was leaked to test the waters and started construction soon after. We got no interior art work for the Mickey Meet and Greet. Test Track is due to reopen in 6 months and we haven't gotten any details of the changes. And we got no information about Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom until after construction was almost complete.

I think TDO is trying to withhold details as long as possible because of the fanboy reaction these days. It seems to be getting worse and worse. If that's the case, I wouldn't expect anything official about anything for a while.

Didn't Eisner announce the Disney Decade?

Avland isn't 100% by any means.

Well I think the Russia pavilion has been a great addition to Epcot but I don't see what that has to do with Avatar.

With FLE we were given multiple pieces of art. Some got heavily altered, heck one was a concept for TDL but at least there was something, an idea to go off of. And all that was caused/after the "leaked" blueprint.

Since there's been nothing shown I really have no opinion of Avatarland one way or another. However, being this far in and still nothing to show tells me that the land is going to be significantly delayed if not canceled.
