Iger Says Avatar Most Likely 2015, Hints at Marvel, More Pirates and Cars

I believe construction was originally to start in early 2013--which could certainly lead to an opening in very late 2015...and if the CEO demands that it open by late 2015 (and forces others to free up the required money), that could certainly happen.

I'm sure he wants this done by then so it opens as he steps down as CEO.

Do you really think though that he would get into talking dates if this project was a no go? Questions from the public can be easily dismissed, and he could have just said "We are still in the early stages of development and we don't have any specific update yet". The fact that he actually put a date to it, to me says a lot more than nothing. The fact that there was no formal presentation on it is I believe because they do not yet have anything nailed down to show. This does not however mean it is not happening.

As TP and I said....if that date of 2015 means anything, they are either farther along than anyone knows, or they better get things nailed down very soon, or he's full of hot air.

I'm really surprised there hasn't been a Car's attraction in WDW but at the same time, very happy. Please keep it out. Especially MK! I know turning the speedway into a RS raceway seems like it could work but I know I would not welcome the change at all.

Pirates.... I don't know. We have a classic attraction that remains a favorite for many even after the changes back when the movies came out. Now there's the pirate league. What more can they do? Overkill will be just that. I'll take quality over quantity.

Love Marvel, but not in WDW. I remember how I cringed every time I saw the Power Rangers in MGM (couldn't stand the craptastic show either) & will cringe just as bad if they have Spider-Man meet & greets or similar. No attractions either. It's bad enough the toys are everywhere.

Avatar... I've said before, even with two sequel's it won't have longevity. How relevant do you think those films will be in 10 years. It will never have the generations of fans like Star Wars & we don't even get a land for that. To be honest, I see WWOHP being dead in 10 years too. I see Avatar Land being the next River Country

The sad thing is Disney does the opposite of what most of us like and want to see. A Monsters Inc coaster like the door scene has been rumored for a while & most of us love the concept. I think if it was done right to where it was thrilling but still not too extreme for kids it would be a huge plus for DHS.

I've always heard Radiator Spring Racers was thought of as a possibility over at the Studios.

I would caution anyone against pushing Disney to keep a $350 million E+ ticket away from WDW. I would love to see that kind of spending in Florida...

To your other points. Song of the South has no relevance nowadays. Yet people love Splash Mountain. Great rides stay popular.

Why all of the hate on cars? It's very popular with the youngsters...I know my 4 year boy would LOVE more cars...and Marvel superhereos as well. Sometimes I think this forum is missing the voice of the little ones.:)
Forget them, they already have meet & greets & Duffy. :ROFLOL:

No kidding!

Have we been so lavished with new attractions that we're going to turn up our collective noses at things like Carsland and Avland because we would prefer a different franchise?

True but it is a classic Disney attraction on it's own even if the movie never existed. I'm sure they can come up with cool attractions for the possible Avatar Land but I don't see the theme itself lasting or being popular years from now. What I'm saying is Disney fans will always be Disney fans. They will always love the classic rides regardless of the technology or age. I can't say the same for Avatar.

It seems to me that its a cheapshot to ioa. Their meet and greets with the superhereos are popular and I think they would be at disney. I would love it. But I have a love hate realtionship with the idea. I don't want ioa to lose something as nice as marvel superhero island but I want disney to have something that will appeal more to my age group and would attract fans. Which I think if marvel is done correctly there would happen. Of course it would be nice if the came out with an attraction that rivals spiderman after 13 years.

So Iger said 2015 for the land to be open...

As we are seeing with the recent goings on, storytime circus has "opened". But it will be a bit before we see the rest of the land complete.

In regards to AL
Really this is an area that was already prepped (If they are using the area earmarked for the BK site) for rides and attractions...Many of the buildings will most likely be rethemed...and I don't see a whole lot of earth moving going on. I would bet a shiney penny that maybe one attraction (probably a star tours clone with an avatar overlay movie) and a bunch of money generating trinket shops and food outlets will be the first stage in 2015, with more planned rides by 2017 based on the success of the initial phase.

2)Bob is boring/not funny. :lookaroun

People are missing the real jewel in that report.

Iger says they are working on bringing the Marvel characters to attractions to the parks.

Spider-Man at the Studios before you know it...

Jimmy Thick-Avatar what?

If that happens, you may get your wish of having the parks all to yourself.

The Blue Sky Cellar has always shown art that is not accurate to what is, at that very moment, being built right outside. There is nearly 60 years of precedent for Disney showing general and preliminary art for projects. Our first glimpses of Shanghai Disneyland were small, blurry, even somewhat out of scale overhead renderings. Even just screen shots from the film showing the desired experiences could have been used for a quick mention. I too think his failure to mention the project on his own says a lot about its status, and points more to hoping that it can fade away than something to remind people about.

Since when has that stopped them from showing conceptual art? We've all seen the paintings of announced attractions that were never built.

I'm surprised they haven't at least produced a painting with a bird's eye view of Avatarland.

exectly.

also, the question about parking at Disneyland was ridiculous. lol.

Some people really do think that the Disney is nothing but P&R sometimes.

EDIT: OMG, I should have waited to comment until I heard the guy waste 5 minutes about pin trading....no wonder TWDC doesn't listen to us diehard members! /killmenow.
