Iger Confirms Star Wars Domestic Parks Presence

Apparently, a full scale model of the Millennium Falcon has been built. Possible with the intent of being used in a theme park after filming Ep VII and perhaps other films.
I don't see the sense in building such a confining set. If it is built it would like have a life well beyond Episode VII as plenty more films are planned.

I think that was a bogus rumor. The thread on it got completely derailed with endless debate on magic bands and tracking, but somewhere in the middle of it 74 popped in and debunked the miceage story as mostly untrue.
I recall he questioned their conclusions but did not deny that work had been stalled on many projects, primarily those intended for Walt Disney World (which he stated before the MiceAge article).

Just the fact that sets are confining, doesn't mean that they won't be built on a 1:1 scale. 'Das Boot' was a submarine film that included the ultimate of confining sets. Crew members resorted to wearing crash helmets as they ran behind the actors lugging their cameras.

Yep. That sounds about right. The article claimed projects at WDW were cancelled and projects for DLR were on hold due to issues and cost overruns with Nextgen at WDW. I believe 74 said he didn't think Nextgen had any impact on DLR and the projects for WDW, specifically StarWarsLand for DHS, were just on hold temporarily not cancelled. WDI was devoting resources to Shanghai to make sure that project is completed on time.

In his own thread, @WDW1974 at one point suggested that SW was delayed and potentially downsized significantly due to MM+ overruns. But more recently, I feel like he has softened his tone about that, although it still delayed (much like the DL version seems to be). In this post, he outright says that DHS Star Wars has not been cancelled unlike what Micechat claimed.

Also, I think it was @Lee who recently suggested that script rewrites for Ep VII are having some impact on Star Wars park stuff, as they want to incorporate some of the new movies into the theme park setting.

SW has been delayed. Nothing to do with the disaster known as NGE. Everything to do with them totally throwing out the script and bringing in a new writer (Lawrence Kasdan). They want to use as much new/'Disney' material in the new areas/attractions and those just don't fully exist yet.

Would they wait about a year to see how the new environments/scenarios are being developed by JJ's film team before proceeding with park plans? Or would they wait until after the Ep 7 comes out and they can see what resonates with the audiences?

They won't wait until 2016 to begin development. No way. They have been working on it and will continue to do so.

So what does that mean for DHS?

That park is in desperate need of a DCA-style makeover and rebranding. It was going to get Pixar Place rides, then it wasn't. It was going to get a full Cars Land, then it wasn't. Then it was going to get Star Wars Land, and now that's "on hold" or outright "cancelled" depending on which online insider you read. Either way, on hold or delayed or cancelled mean pretty much the same thing for any type of quick (3 years or less) fix for DHS.

So does that mean DHS has to muddle through most of this decade without a fix? Just some new strings of lights on Fantasmic in '14 and another Johnny Depp meet n' grope in an empty soundstage in '15? And the daily DHS parade they cancelled a year ago still has no replacement on the way. They won't even tear out the hat???

Whether you say "on hold" or "cancelled" or "delayed", it still seems like that's horrible news for DHS and all the big makeover plans of the last two years.
