Iger Confirms Star Wars Domestic Parks Presence

What's the appeal of building a Mos Eisley Cantina? Seems like a dusty and dingy place. Not sure why everyone is clamoring for this.

If you Disneyize it a bit it doesn't have to be dusty and dingy. If you are going to build a Star Wars themed dining location, then I don't think you could come up with anything more iconic then the Cantina. It doesn't even have to be a carbon copy of the one in the movie, just inspired by it.

Yes, and they can call it Mos Iger Cantina. :cautious:

WDW better not end up cheaping out on Star Wars Land, either. I'd assume splitting costs is why DL and HS are likely getting it at the same time? I wish our parks could get something unique for once for at least a while. Oh well. At least something's coming at some point.

Maybe 2019 for the park's 30th? LOL

I have a hard time seeing two themed lands going into two parks at WDW at the near same time.

I also can't believe I'm talking about a future land that's likely not coming until 2017. I mean, seriously, when you think about that. It's almost 2014. Three years? (which I guess is actually fairly fast for Disney ...). Pandora at AK better be damn near spectacular. Same for SWL. They really better not cheap out. I don't want a spinner and a meet & greet. You can't tell me a land can't be built in 2 years.

That's because it's a major scene in the first movie. Ben hires Han to get them off Tatooine. Without a trip to Mos Eisley, the movie wouldn't have played out as it did. "It is dusty and dirty" because it is a product of it's environment. Tatooine is a desert planet. I would rather have a Mos Eisley Cantina than a Jabba's Palace restaurant.

Funny Mos Eisley is misspelled.
Haha it's probably intentional since it would be copyright infringement and these "SF Indie" dudes didn't want to pay any $ to Lucasfilm. After all, Lucasfilm is basically right around the corner!

...actually, I just checked again and Tatooine is spelled correctly and "Star Wars" is also in the ad. They might've just been high when they made the poster.

You would think they would have had to pay :greedy: because "George Lucas" is in the ad.

I've heard on good authority that Iger will also soon be "confirming" that some stuff of unknown scale will be built at an undisclosed location, somewhere at some point, maybe. In the meantime though he plans to continue spending billions acquiring various companies and products that are popular in a desperate and sad corporate attempt to remain relevant.

It's probably worth re-linking the Micechat article from October 8, which discussed potential plans for Star Wars additions at TL in Disneyland. It's likely that whatever ends up at DHS will likely be similar to what is seen at DL. Anyhow, the article talks about....

* Millennium Falcon walk through with Chewbacca M&G
* Mos Eisley Cantina with " interactive dining/entertainment concept using the Star Wars universe"
* Speeder Bike thrill ride
* Ewok village and walk-through attraction that will house dining and shops

(There's also been talk in the past, not from that article, about an interactive show -- possibly an indoor version of the Jedi Academy with Yoda or a 4D movie -- replacing the Eo theater in DL.)

So, in his thread, @WDW1974 mentioned that the Miceage stuff on DL's TL expansion with Star Wars is accurate. He does point out that this does not necessarily mean the same stuff is coming to DHS, though I personally expect there to be significant cloning between the two areas.

Interesting that this apparently will be a loss of the subs and Autopia for DL's TL for the speeder bike/Endor area. The same sort of ride is rumored to be planned to replace the Indy stunt show, which will certainly be accepted and appreciated far more by WDW guests than the DL faithful dealing with losing the subs and cars.
