If and When Apple Buys Disney, Will Parks Finally Improve?

This. I use apple products and PCs alongside each other in one of my jobs. The Apple products are non essential to operations, thankfully, they crash multiple times daily. The PCs are critical, and very rarely crash. So I agree with your point. Also, I think it would be financially prohibitive for Apple to do a buyout.

Interesting. I handle all of the IT operations where I work, from hardware to software to networking and phones. We operate with a mixed environment consisting of Mac and PC workstations and Linux servers. By far the Macs are the most dependable machines when it comes to uptime, maintenance, and reliability. The PCs seem like they always need attention, from updates gone wrong to malware that somehow gets installed no matter how tight you lock the machine down. In fact we're looking at replacing the rest of our Windows workstations with Macs.

I don't know why, but i don't like this.

I just looked at acquired companies of Apple and I'm not impressed.

If you think DVC is bad think of the apple stores if Apple controlled! Lol

I also looked up companies google owns, if I had to choose, I think google woulv be a better owner for Disney.

Really, I'd just prefer Disney to be their own company. Their doing well and ARE improving things. I still think their improving for a reason.

I could see this becoming a plausible idea if they feel it would be beneficial to Apple's plan to enter the television market. Most of Disney's networks are already prominently featured on the Apple TV platform. Owning the content not only makes the business more economical but also could give them more negotiating power with cable companies and other content providers. All of this of course depends greatly only what Apples plans are for their approach to the TV market. I personally don't think Apple would want to do this unless for what every reason they found it absolutely necessary, they seem to like to keep a sharp focus on their core products and not spread themselves to thin.

Buying more stake would seem to be the plausible idea. I would like to see some Apple technology throughout the parks. Can't imagine Apple being able to have the funds to completely buy outright. Interesting though...

Apple could certainly afford to buy Disney either outright or through stock. Disney is currently valued at $145 billion Apple has $160 billion in cash on hand and the company is currently valued at $543 billion.

WaPo has created a story basing it on another "genius" analysis. Please take the piece with a grain of salt. Pure speculative nonsense. Just because things on the surface appear to make sense, below the surface it can be very different.

I know that I posted several months ago about a monster tech/media deal that is on the table and that one is still crawling around because of all the merger and acquisition activity that's been going on in the two industries. I still have no guidance on an announce date on it, but apparently the players remain the same. Apple is one of the players looking to buy this major media property and it isn't Disney. There is some validity to what's being spoken about, as Apple wants to control and own content, but Apple does not want to be a toy and theme park company. There are some other big guns that they've done due diligence on and layers of lawyers have worked together on both sides. Whether Apple makes a deal, that's a good question. The other potential buyer is the one that insiders want at this other big media company that isn't Disney. :)

Lorraine Jobs is the largest individual shareholder, but that stakes pales in comparison to institutional investors, the ones that truly matter in these deals.

The "Boy Genius Report" and some consultant's opinion? Oh please. They don't even address the cash cows that are ESPN as well as Parks and Resorts.

This is not "picking up steam".... This is "asinine pipe dream." It would be bad for BOTH companies.

I don't know, some are saying it's not a a bad idea in order for them to keep up with Google and Amazon. Mind you, I don't think Amazon is going to beat them in the phone market, but with their media library and streaming services now, they've made themselves a major player.
Still, I don't see what the advantage of such a merger/buyout would do for Apple that they can't already fortify with their existing licensing agreements.

I think that may do it with me...I can't stand Apple...you guys think we have seen price hikes at the parks? You haven't seen anything...Apple would raise the prices by a ton...just because.

They make a nice product...but it's not worth what they charge.

No way Apple needs to stay out!!! and I agree with you about the price hikes Apple steps in. Yes they have nice products but way over priced. And if this happens sorry I will stop going to WDW

I Microsoft bought Disney would you then continue going to WDW, or would you still bad WDW? Just curious...

There is a better chance of an alien invasion than there is of this happening. I just don;t understand why people would even bother to debate it....

I'm not sure Apple's pricing models would be a bad thing.:)

I hate to be that guy, but they just lowered iPod Touch prices this morning. Granted they still might not be low enough for some peoples' tastes, but they certainly aren't out to hike prices. They recently released the cheapest iMac ever. Again, not exactly cheap, but a price drop just the same. Or at least that's my two cents.

Edit: And as far as Apple buying Disney goes, I'm certainly not against it. Perhaps they'd even breathe some money into future world, as the goals of that "land" and Apple align quite nicely. There's always been a corporate interaction there. Steve sold Disney Pixar in shares of Disney stock remember, and more recently MM+ runs fairly exclusively on iPads from the CM perspective.

The pricing of a theme park and computer products have nothing to do with each other.
You're correct! I think it is generally accepted that both Apple and Disney both offer premium products in their respective lines of business and both are priced accordingly. I find it extremely humorous and ironic that someone would suggest that Apple products are too expensive on one hand and think that this would be a problem for a company that charges more for theme park visits than just about any other theme park. I think everyone has their priorities, if vacations are important to you and computers and phones not so much than you may be willing to pay the premium for your vacation and accept a little less for your electronic needs. I'm sure there are many people out there who rely heavily on their computer, electronics etc. who would think nothing of spending $3K-4K for a high end computer but cannot understand why some would spend that same amount on a one week vacation to WDW when they could just simply visit their local Six Flags.
