Ice Cream coming back to Boardwalk

You're joking but I'd take a pint of Ben & Jerry's any day of the week over the fancy shmancy premium ice cream places charging a fortune per cup. Every time I see a new flavor announced for Salt & Straw, I think "well that sounds... unappealing" and happily walk over to Black Tap for another CrazyShake. lol

But my Disneyland ice cream go-to is still first and foremost a Mickey Premium ice cream bar. :) It still tastes magical to me - even if it seems like it's a fourth or so smaller than it used to be. lol Ghirardelli's chocolate ice cream at DCA isn't bad either but never tastes any particularly better to me than a good Ben & Jerry's chocolate flavor.
For me, Ghirardelli is all about the dark hot fudge. Just give me that with a spoon.

I have to say, I don't want any supermarket brand ice cream when I am at WDW and paying those prices. I think using Edy's ice cream branding actually cheapens the Main Street Ice Cream shop... Edys is not bad for supermarket ice cream but when you are paying premium for everything, it should be a premium product... I think using a better quality ice cream with no brand would be a better option...and would make it easier to swallow the pricing... Honestly I don't want to see any national chains anywhere as a reminder that "I can get it cheaper at home"... The products sold in the park should be unique...
For the boardwalk they could even do soft serve custard...like they do on the actual boardwalk...simplify but use better quality with no brand attachment... Boardwalk Dairy Ice Cream...Hyperion Creamery...Clarabelle's Custard...all would feel more unique and an easier sell for the $10 ice cream cone.

but you’ve ALWAYS had branded ice cream at wdw.

the dwarves are busy cleaning up after after hours magic for free...they no longer have time to churn the cream

We were in the Lobby of the Beach club watching people checking in...Pool was packed, Beaches and Cream had long lines... So if everything was closed, they were sure busy for some reason...Same at the Boardwalk.
It struck us all as a bit odd that they were claiming such reduced capacity, but everything seemed so crazy crowded...
Perhaps because half of the shops and restaurants were closed...
The Beach Club Villas & Boardwalk Villas are open. The resort side is not. The Beach Club Resort side reopens May 30 and Boardwalk Resort side reopens on July 2nd.

Have you ever tried salt & Straw? Their vanilla is the best vanilla I’ve ever had. They have plenty of normal flavors to go with the more exotic ones.

I agree that ghiradelli has great ice cream as well.. I also like the make your own ice cream bar at Clarabelles next to Starbucks. No shortage of great ice cream in California!

No, I haven't - in part because I look at the price and realize for one of their cups I can basically get two pints of Ben & Jerry's on sale :D - or for just over twice the amount, get a CrazyShake at Black Tap which is a milkshake PLUS an entire second dessert - cake, brownie, cupcake, etc. And those are just plain FUN to eat!

And partly because it's just a local ice cream shop that friends have liked since before it was at DL and still always seemed overpriced and just... overwrought flavors to me.

I have a friend for whom Clarabelle's at DCA is a MUST every visit (weather encouraging). I found the make-your-own bars fall apart too fast to eat without a mess though. lol

Hey I don’t blame you cause we think a like. Everytime I got in line to try a blue milk I looked at the price and said “I could hop the monorail and grab a double scoop at salt and straw for the same price!”

But I used to go out of my way in Portland to visit Salt & Straw before they had any other stores so I was already a fan.

I on the other hand would be excited to have somewhere to go get my favorite Ohio ice creams again. Throw in UDF Homemade brand and Velvet and Ohio is probably the best ice cream state in the country.
New Hampshire, home to countless homemade ice cream stands, most of which are amazing. I love Graters but nothing beats New Hampshire’s variety. They are just all small shops so no one outside the state knows about it.

I really dislike how except at Gheridelli I cannot get my preferred paring of ice cream flavors due to Disney’s hatred of Chocolate Chip Ice Cream. Seems like the only ice cream shop that doesn’t stock the stuff, it pairs so nicely with strawberry ice cream. Cookies and Cream is a poor substitute but acceptable, that doesn’t even have plain chocolate ice cream!
