I can't stand the abbreviations

I agree with it being lazy to not learn them. For me, I think if you truly know WDW you would already know them, it comes naturally.

As for the comment about it turning new-comers away, don't you think the immense amount of hostility of the members on this site is a bigger turn-off than abbreviations? If you want to be welcoming then the majority of people on here need to learn how to be positive and not turn everything into a fight. I am a member of some other forums and one in particular catches my eye. It's so positive that when you see something negative it is actually shocking. And things over here are only getting worse. Each and every person who comes on here see what attitudes are acceptable to have and in return show those attitudes as well. If we all try to just be a tad less rude or harsh then we could make this a better. But something tells me that you all just want to continue complaining about something and not do anything to fix it...

I don't think anyone's trying to start a fight. Just expressing our opinions. Peace, love, and WDW!

I has an idea...thought it would take some coding...is it possible to turn on a setting that will automatically show a link to the full term when an acronym is used?

Like when it shows IASW you could put your mouse over it that says "It's a Small World"?

I've been programming lots of stuff recently so maybe that's why I'm in that mode

Chris, that's a heck of a good idea.

(but then there's BLT; bacon lettuce tomato, Bay Lake Towers, Back Lot Tour) but still a heck of a good idea.

I meant the site as a whole. I donno, I've been a member since early '06 and was a reader long before that. The attitudes were much better back then and as the years progress it is only getting worse.

I think it is just that some topics have been beaten to death and sometimes it annoys people to rehash them.

So it mirrors the management performance then. Glad you agree,
While I hate to say it, because I know how much work goes into running forums, it does play a part, but it is certainly not the whole problem. By being so flexible people have learned to test their limits, and every member that joins day after day sees what kind of behavior is allowed and follows along.

I don't see just that. I see people purposely starting things. Also everything is a competition on who knows the most and who has the most accurate sources. I mean the second a newbie(or anyone for that matter) gets on here with a rumor(rumor mind you, not news), a pile of people will just show up and gang up. It's ridiculous.

I love WDWMagic, I really do. But I must say the reason why my posts are so low is because I do my best to not be thrown into the hostility. I wish I could see a day again where you could get some valuable information without weeding through other peoples ignorance to get to it.

The worst one was BLT. I started lurking around this site when it was being built and I was completely confused. there are still some now that trip me up but I use them.
The DH DD DS DW don't bother me and I use them quite often. It also helps so i'm not saying my children's names. Like instead of saying My daughter Molly, 14 and then continuing a trip report by repeating Molly a billion times, I can just say DD14 . I think Its easier to keep people straight.
But I do agree some I look at and I'm like :confused::confused: so I normally skip those threads.

LIKE MILF???? That one took me forever. :p

Well just don't mention anything about the yeti working again, the hat being removed or a 5th gate.

As for wanting to show that you know the most, first it is human nature and second it is to show that you know the most about wdw and disney.

The rumors section will have more of the behavior that is turning you off, if you hit up the parks, resorts and dinning sections, it isn't as bad unless you don't like disney bashing.

On the DS, DD, DH thing, that is exactly the point. I can start a post telling you my husband is John. My kids and nieces and nephews are Mary(14), Ida(11), Charlie(10), Kevin(10), Eric(5), and Yvonne(2).
Then I proceed with my story. You won't remember who I married, who's what age or who ate this when where or whatever. lol. It just keeps it more simple.

You don't have to remember who my kids were and how to spell their names and, if you were the OP(original poster), I don't have to remember your kids' names either. lol. I can just say "take your DD to Disney"

*shudders*

I hate websites that are filled with those pesky Java popup boxes.

There is nothing more annoying than popups when your cursor just happens to roll across some random area of the screen.

But why the extra "D" ? Isn't that kind of sugar coating everything? Why not H32, W31, S12, D11, GM52....

Isn't DD or DS, disney daughter and disney son respectively? It stands for "dear"? I'm new to this, too and am trying to catch on. Obviously I'm not doing as well as I thought!!

I didn't WRITE them:) I just use them. I assume it's to be nice and loving. Also, probably because doing just a letter and number could stand for alot of things. Plus, not every story requires an age, just like my example above. I could be talking about your child but don't remember the kid's name. So it's your DS, DD, or DC (dear child). "you shoulda told your DW and DD to sit back and be happy!" :)

That D can stand for whatever you want it to be, Disney, Dear, Darling, or, if in that mood, Damn :ROFLOL:

When I started here I used "DS" when referring to my son. Using his name on the internet didn't appeal to me. Now he's older, I just call him Morgan.

Of course his name is "Alphonse".... :lookaroun

I'm more referring to the way the people here treat each other. As for the human nature thing, can't agree, a lot of other forums out there can keep it under control, why can we? Disney bashing I don't mind. I am in the parks for at least a month straight each year. I am more than aware that TDO has issues they need to work out. I know I'm not the only one who has mentioned this issue with the people on this site. There actually have been a lot who have left because of it.
