I almost ended up in the Twilight Zone tonight!

Oh my goodness, creepiest thing that has EVER happened to me on ToT. Now, ToT is one of my favorite rides in DHS, so while waiting for Fantasmic tonight, I rode it several times. The last time I rode, it did it's normal up and down thingy, and at the end, where it normally backs up and turns you towards the door, it got stuck. It backed up a little, and there was still the voiceover (ie "welcome back for those of you who made it...")...but it never turned towards the door. The whole elevator sat there awkwardly for a sec, wondering why we hadn't moved yet, and then the lights went out.

And we sat there in darkness for a good five minutes or so.

They finally got us moving again and we all exited the ride just fine, but for a moment there I was almost positive we were all lost somewhere beyond the fifth dimension!!!!:ROFLOL:

That happened to our family once, only they couldn't get the ride vehicle going again and we had to be evacuated. The entire time we were sitting there before the evac, our children were terrified another ride vehicle was going to come down and squish us.

Yikes! Actually, the thought of another vehicle squishing us did cross my mind, before I remembered that we had at least moved backwards.

*Edit*: Let me rephrase. The thought of another vehicle squishing us did cross my mind, but not in the realistic sense. It was more of a "geez, what if that were to happen" type thought. Didn't think I'd be taken so seriously.................

Haha oh my gosh! Of course it does happen obviously, but I've never heard a personal story of being trapped in the Twilight Zone (aka when ToT breaks down for a second). That must have been super creepy!

^ And you don't think that a complex ride system would have thought of that already?

EDIT: referring to the post about the ride vehicle coming down on top of another one.

Of course I know Disney uses fail-safes to prevent such an occurrence - but try explaining that to terrified children. No amount of logic and reasoning will do when emotions have run away.

Just so you can rest at ease, as others have said, it's physically impossible for that to happen.
When your vehicle is in either the load or drop shafts, it sits within a "cage" of sorts. (A good analogy would be like you pushing a shopping cart into a regular elevator. The shopping cart is your ride vehicle, the elevator is the "cage" in the Tower drop shafts. A simplified explanation, but close enough...)

As there's only one "cage" per shaft, it's impossible for another car to come down on top of you, because you're in the cage already. (Just as it's impossible for another elevator car to come down on top of you in a regular elevator shaft)

It actually used to be possible for an elevator to "squish you" back in the day when the lifts had the ability to peak out of the top of the shaft and overlook the park before the drop sequence.

My only problem with the ride every time my sons drag me on it, (mind you it is a really good attraction, but not one of my favs), is every time I do go on it it happens to be the time that it drops you 5 FREAKIN TIMES!!!! Why not 3 or 2, no 5. And now that I just turned 50 every time they drag me on it again it will do the same. :hammer:

My wife still talks about the time she was Evac'd from the 5th dimension scene. She says it was the creepiest thing ever.

They never did this, as mentioned in another current thread. It`s technically impossible for the AGV to move forward out of the drop shaft VVC.

You must have not been there when it first opened, back when they had Goofy dressed as a bellhop in the library that takes you down.

This happened to us a few years ago, in the darkness one of the riders shouted: "I'm going to kill you all!"
