Nakatomi Plaza Christmas Eve 1988. Never Forget.

There really isn't much a reason why it can't go ahead tonight. The forecast for MK this evening is actually pretty pleasant.
Other than the terrible optics of having a party on the eve of a potentially impactful storm event, when every public figure has urged the public to plan and prepare for the worst.

Maybe attendees can stock up on candy from the event to survive on if the worst happens in the central Florida area.

How up to date are these strings? Entry is noticeably more south than yesterday IIRC. They keep putting it up on the screen on WESH-

As has been echoed numerous times in this thread, they’re not doing anything differently than they ever have. They have never made any sort of closure announcement as early as people are saying they should’ve. They are in the process of their phased lockdown and none of that so far has required guests knowing about it. Why is Disney doing what they have always done in this situation suddenly an issue? They’ve clearly been preparing for a couple days and have clearly been working with Universal and SeaWorld on the plan. Just because the others got their announcements out a couple hours sooner doesn’t mean Disney was waiting to be the last or that they’re dragging their feet. They’re following their procedure.

Because the world and procedures can get better with experience. Their competition has. This is by far the latest announcing of closures for this size, and is also a closer to direct hit effect of a storm than they have had in the past. There was also a storm just two weeks ago that devastated much of its talent pool. This is not the same as they have always done.

Also, yea they DO do a great job taking care of people during these events. We’ve seen them do it many times. People on property will have food, water, electricity, and access to help if they need it.
They’ve never waited until 24 hours until after the airport already announced a closure before. And most guests, in lala land can no longer get out

Tom Terry on WFTV says he's surprised the NHC is predicting a Cat 2 for the Orlando area, and seems to think that might be overstating it. He seems to think there's a possibility it will weaken beforehand and get sheared off somewhat. Though he does say the potential can't be written off. Tony Mainolfi on WESH was a bit more bold about contradicting the NHC's forecast and said he thinks it will weaken and track a bit more south.

Dennis Phillips does a great job at pointing this sort of thing out.

the NHC won't update as much for small changes because they collect modeling a different way in many regards. The truth is neither the local or NHC know for sure and can just offer the educated guesses and paths. A large part of this is becuase the worst winds come form about fifteen miles of the eyewall.

As others put it. Just prepare for the worst.

For Disney's sake, hopefully the Cast Members filled up their vehicles ahead of time with gas, becuase that is going to have to be used, and many stations will be out or closed tomorrow.

Particularly a CM who needs to get home after 5PM.

The Call-ins will be unprecedented for this sort of thing.

And other sources are expecting it to intensify at landfall and stay more powerful. I really hope not.

Hope for the best and prepare for the worst.
Do you mean prior to landfall? No reputable source is saying it will intensify when it hits land in terms of wind speed. That isn't how they work. They will weaken to some extent, even if it's not as much as people hope. They don't become stronger when they hit land.

I believe it's a Cat 5 right now, or was as of an hour or two ago. I'm not going to make assumptions about its final strength once it begins to breach the shore, but no reputable source i've seen has said it's going to remain that strength when it hits. It may maintain better than they're saying, but once it begins to make landfall, it won't strengthen or fully maintain all of its power. It's going to start to lose some. Not that it matters if it DOES somehow hit land at a Cat 5 because that would be apocalyptic for Central FL regardless. Just noting how hurricane physics work when they hit land.
