Hurricane Matthew

Is everything else closed? All of the shops and counter service? Is this box the only option people have had to eat? That's what I'd like to know.
Judging by what I'm reading on Facebook this is all that's left. Some people are saying that people are getting combative over food at Caribbean Beach. If this is all that's left then this IMO is the equivalent of price gouging.

HOTTER usually. :hungover: I can deal with the storms - it's the heat and humidity after that's brutal. (Think Disney in Sept/Oct with no A/C cooled rides or gift shops.) We do have a portable AC unit - it's a lifesaver. (That and a few bottles of wine tucked into the hurricane supplies!) :D

Kate in 1985 was the week before Thanksgiving, thank god. And Hermine hit right after a week of 90+ temperatures. But we had 80 degree weather the few days after, so it was tolerable. Umm, never thought of the portable a/c unit. Will have to check into that.

Don't know if they paid cash or with MBs. If the latter, they should be refunded on their bill. If the former, they should hold onto the receipt or box and seek a refund. May be easier to refund on their resort stay as well.

I do too. I don't think it's price gouging though. I also don't believe that is the only food option that people have had all day.

When you compare it to the $30+ my wife and I will spend at Cosmic Ray's for a couple of burgers, fries, and drinks...it's still a stretch. Given the circumstances it's a really bad decision made somewhere. You can't tell me that there is no produce available. Slice a little tomato, tear a leaf of lettuce... I've done enough catering related to my BBQ hobby to have a pretty good idea what the margin is on that box lunch. $14 was the wrong number.

I think the "forgetfulness" about storms because it's been so long is extending outward to people forgetting that upping prices in an emergency ($6 gas, etc) is not only morally reprehensible but also very illegal.

If a family of four bought those boxes, you are talking $52. Even at retail prices (not wholesale which is what Disney would have paid) there is about $7 worth of food in four of those boxes. If that's not price gouging I don't know what is.
It is illegal. Rick Scott has also been tweeting about it. They have directly informed hotels, gas stations, etc that they will come after them if they participate in price gouging.

I mentioned this earlier in the thread- there are exceptions, it has to be actual gouging. I paid over $40 for a piece of chicken breast after Wilma. 1 piece of chicken in a plastic to go box.
That was not considered gouging. In my opinion it should have been.
