If I hear one more reporter talk about saturated ground and trees falling over, I will scream. Yeah, dude, we know. I've got one in my backyard....

I realize he's the governor, but I think he'd have some problem cancelling a college football game, without checking with his buddy John Thrasher.

You just want to guarantee a Cane win, lol.
No, I want a FSU beating..from the Canes :) I'm not criticizing RS with that..was a stupid question from the reporter!

Think for yourselfer
I honestly don't know how they did that, without the resort taking care of them as if they were children. It must have been a miracle or something.

I appreciate the general premise here. But it's a little bit apples and oranges....

WDW has gone out of its way to discourage guests from even considering going outside the Disney bubble for anything. Guests are conditioned to rely on Disney for their every want and need. So being unprepared is far more understandable in WDW then most anywhere else.

Things seem a bit less organized this time around.
I'm sure there has been a change of staff, and it sounds like they've gotten lax in their preparedness, training and planning.
Hopefully all goes well, but so far, even from a distance, they don't sound like they're handling it with the same level of efficiency they did in the past.

Given what we were celebrating last Saturday, I would bet that the number of retirements within the senior levels of resort and area management and ops crews in the last 12 years is substantial. And given how fast newer managers move from place to place and that the first order of business is managing labor costs, expenses and profit margins and not things like efficiency and proficiency of the location operations, especially when under "stress," I am not surprised they aren't running like a well oiled machine. Like I mentioned during the alligator incident, institutional knowledge is not valued in today's business environment. Higher ups assume "someone will take care of it." But the infrequency of necessity lead it to be something lower levels cut or don't prepare for because it takes time, money and the front line cast turns over too fast for the info to be retained if they even consider its something to consider at all. So then when it's necessary, people are left scrambling. And I bet the location managers aren't empowered to make decisions without risking consequences. Some decisions (like closing the parks) probably even had to pass through Burbank.

I'm actually here for this. My husband and I came in last Thursday. We were at Universal Monday - Wed. Never turned on tv. Barely looked at my phone, didn't hear any TMs talking about what they were going to do, so despite normally being very conscientious we were caught off guard by this. We stopped at Publix in Windermere on our way back to my Dad's got most of what we needed, but they were sold out of water, bread and some other stuff. This morning we went to the Winter Garden Publix and they had been restocked so we got supplies. In the 20 years we've been visiting Central Fl, and the 11 years my Dad has lived here, usually during hurricane season, this is the first time we're getting hit. Everyone usually stresses how rare it is for Orlando to get hit like this so even though you know a storm is coming it usually turns the other way, weakens, goes north or south etc. So I can't blame people in the bubble for not realizing how bad this was getting.

Our flight home is scheduled for 5pm on Sunday. Hopeful we will get out, but will see how the aftermath goes, planning on getting to the airport earlier than normal. We have a family friend who we were originally hoping to visit today, who lives in Rockledge and her daughter lives on Merritt Island. She has thankfully evacuated to a hotel with her grandson and dog and we are mostly worried about how her home and community will fare.

Everything in Orlando is closed. However, i did notice all the Chinese restaurants and steak and shake open

Yeah. There were a few Mexican & Asian restaurants near & around I-Drive still open but they were PACKED.

WaWa is open on Central Fla. Pkwy since we just picked up a case (or two) of needed supplies :) about 10 minutes ago.

Exactly. Disney advertises how they take care of everything, and anyone would reasonably assume that given that they host 10's of thousands of people at a time in a hurricane prone zone, they at least have a plan to feed the captive guests without resorting to $13 prison meals.

Who's Tommy?
Tom Corless who runs a competing website. Known for sensationalizing or exaggerating his headlines to gain clicks. For example, yesterday stated that Disney was evacuating "resorts" versus just a single resort/campground at Fort Wilderness. Same guy that took Disney concept artwork and watermarked it when he posted on his site so other folks could not use. Granted, this was artwork that he had no right to nor did he own. Just another infamous Disney WDW blogger.

I'm going to strenuously defend my alma mater here. FSU fans are not that bad. Now UF fans are just nasty... classless...

Ohhh I hate them even more..trust me. Unfortunately I have a lot of UF alum friends too...still can't stand them during football season ;)
