For all of you saying, "yeah, it will be okay after the storm blows through", you have absolutely no clue what your talking about. If you think it's not going to be too bad, go find pictures of Miami after Andrew.

You're not kidding - lifelong Floridian here - I saw Andrew's impact first hand. I lost a roof and other damage to Wilma 10 yrs ago - which was a cat 1. WDW is built very tough, but anything Cat 4 and above is a diff ball game - they may need a little more recovery time before the magic can resume.

I'm down in Ft Laud...if it stays on the current track, we may actually dodge the worst of this, fingers crossed. But I'm keeping those shutters up, tubs filled and gas jugs at the ready. With our luck, this sucker could end up looping back next week on one of those alternate tracks they're talking about.

This is where you have travel insurance...

Bottom line is that any thing recouped comes from the insurance company, not Disney - so it still is sick that Disney is gouging guests like that with these boxes. The point that they don't normally do the boxes actually plays into how bad it is - there are laws against taking advantage of people in emergency situations.

Forgetting all of that, it looks AWFUL for WDW. Not the magical persona they put forth. If that box goes viral, they will have lost far more than if they had just done the right thing and given them away or provided them at a nominal charge.

Theyre already catching bad PR for this. Think of how much mileage they get out of good PR for giving that out free and taking the tax write of....

Exactly. That's why I think it's some middle management thing - some asshat thinking "gee we are gonna lose money hand over fist this week, maybe I'll get a promotion if I try to make some of that back".

Someone is gonna get canned over this.

Hope you do, too.

One of those loops has it crossing Florida and then going into the Gulf. The incubator of monster storms. That's when I will start to worry and head to Lowe's for a generator.

This is bad. This is really bad. To charge 12.99 for what looks like the equivalent of a prison meal is just awful on Disney's part. If you think this "meal" is equivalent to a QSR meal for the price they are charging, then please, buy the land and bridge I have for sale in Mexico.

NBC Nightly News just ran a segment on price gouging. All it takes is for one person to tweet that out. I'm sure Disney will be getting a phone call or a visit.

After Hurricane Sandy in NJ, and living for 10 days without power, I can only imagine what a hurricane in Florida would be like.

HOTTER usually. :hungover: I can deal with the storms - it's the heat and humidity after that's brutal. (Think Disney in Sept/Oct with no A/C cooled rides or gift shops.) We do have a portable AC unit - it's a lifesaver. (That and a few bottles of wine tucked into the hurricane supplies!) :D

Is everything else closed? All of the shops and counter service? Is this box the only option people have had to eat? That's what I'd like to know.

I think the "forgetfulness" about storms because it's been so long is extending outward to people forgetting that upping prices in an emergency ($6 gas, etc) is not only morally reprehensible but also very illegal.

If a family of four bought those boxes, you are talking $52. Even at retail prices (not wholesale which is what Disney would have paid) there is about $7 worth of food in four of those boxes. If that's not price gouging I don't know what is.
