Hurricane Matthew

One: It depends what is in the boxed lunch. Two: They don't have to offer anything.

Now that I disagree with.

Disney has tens of thousands of captive people. People who Disney specifically advertised would be taken care of from the moment they get off the airplane until they get loaded back on to go home. People who are discouraged from having personal transportation at the resort.

So saying they didn't have to offer anything at all is sheer silliness.

They just showed people on the local news who are upset that they just arrived in Orlando only to find the parks are closed. Wow

Sorry, the moose out front should've told ya.

It would only be 2 monorails they can't find anymore than that in there.

Incorrect, they park four trains in there, two on each beam, nose to nose.

It's nothing spectacular. From Allears.

That's not the impressive part, what's neat is seeing the trains right up against each other In the middle nearly touching.

Do you guys think Disney would give me a full refund for my two week stay if I was meant to arrive on Saturday ? My family and I are coming all the way from France and we're not sure we want to leave our beautiful weather behind us to come to a devastated area and risky area ...

We might not be able to get a refund for the plane tickets unless our flight gets cancelled but getting our Disney money back would be good enough.

If your heart isn't in it to make the trip, I'd call and ask. The worst they can tell you is 'no'. I wouldn't be shocked to see your flight for a Saturday arrival cancelled as well. A flight across the Atlantic will require a decision sooner than a domestic flight.

No no people get a number of PTO "sick days" if you will. CMS are having to use their PTO days because of the hurricane. Im not saying CMs should necessarily get paid for days the park is closed, but they shouldn't be reprimanded for something they can't control.
I don't know about Disney but for most any place I have ever worked PTO does not mean sick days. It means Paid Time Off. Sick days are included in this, as well as vacation days and personal days and sometime Holidays. These type of unforeseen acts of nature are also included in PTO. You are not getting punished when you are forced to use PTO, you are getting paid for time off which is better than the alternative of not getting paid.

IMHO, the park is to be open on Saturday (as of now), so no. The storm will have moved on and parks reopened.

In the US, you can get travel insurance up to 24 hours before your trip... Might not be a bad idea for you.

They don't have do something extra. Boxed lunches are not something they normally provide. But they are doing what is morally and ethically right and I would expect nothing less from them. That's all.

No seriously. Im agreeing with people who say that its not a foreigners fault if they don't know what something is.

If I were in japan and they said were having typhoon I would be S#@t outta luck.

No, as another poster said, just follow the lead of the natives and you'll be fine. I'd worry more about earthquakes in Japan, than typhoons. There's no earthquake season....and Japan is in one of the most active earthquake zones along the Pacific rim.

But I read the hurricane policy on the official website and they said " If you are scheduled to arrive within 7 days of a hurricane warning, you may call us in advance to reschedule without a Disney imposed change fee."

The alert was issued yesterday IIRC so it could work, couldn't it ?

This is like that guy who posted somewhere else about their arrival day at the campground was today... It's like, dude, the campground is closed... Call Disney and see what they say... And this guy was also not in Florida yesterday, so heaven knows what he did with family in tow...
I'm expecting a few vlogs on Youtube that features guests upset about the resorts closing for today and tomorrow.

By the end of the weekend everything is going to be fine.

It's not like it's doomsday. Given current predictions, WDW has been through worse before and been just fine. It's not going to be devistated, and once it's gone it's no longer a "risky area".

That said, flights are likely to still be impacted on Saturday, just due to backup created during the storm of travelers. If I were you, if my flight was cancelled, I'd rebook for the next possible one.

I know the fear mongering has people envisioning some war zone disaster area - that's simply not going to happen. If I could, I'd be coming down next week because the crowds will be light and once the storm has passed it will be all over.

Disney and Universal dragged their feet in deciding to close and making it known. Local officials were already telling people to get off the roads at 5:00 and definitely no later than 6:00.

Paid leave may not be required, but it is definitely the sort of thing that would make for great publicity and employee relations.
It's most likely not required.. I have had my office underwater and still wasn't given paid leave.

This didn't happen at the The Atlantis. It happened at some other hotel called RUI Palace Paradise Island -- it's the first time I have ever heard of this hotel.

Anyway, there was a couple from Maryland staying in that room on their honeymoon -- when the wall came peeling down and they caught it all on video. How terrifying!

They are okay -- but they left their four year old daughter at home and are desperately trying to get back to her safely here in the US. The Bahamas airport is closed indefinitely.

Unlike the US, in the Bahamas they voluntarily shut off all power on the island once the winds exceed 40 miles -- not sure why though.

Oh okay, thats down the block from Atlantis.

True, I did forget about that. In that case, you may get something back.

Yeah.... Katiebug's are gonna surface!
