Number one you quoted that wrong i never said anything about fear.

I am saying that you are lighting fires for more people just to attack you. You keep saying stuff to ignite these things. So you might need to stop before your post get you in trouble. FYI

That would be sad.

The one person who stands up and says that people DON'T need to be afraid and I'd get in trouble. Anyone who actually LIVES in Florida (for the most part) knows that I speak the truth.

DG - please, please, trust me that I would never ever come on here to just hurt someone's feelings.

I really didn't mean that YOU were a lonely housewife - but more the fanatics of these news programs watching them nonstop - much like after some other traumatic American events.

I'm sorry that you're going through a traumatic time, I wish that there was some way to help you understand that the last thing I would EVER want to do is make anything worse for anyone. Trust me, this thread sure has p-yossed me off but I really am not aiming at one person in particular and none of this is meant to be personal in any way shape or form. I feel for you and your friends in this area and I worry a little bit myself, but I guess until you live down here and see JUST how much EVERYONE wants you to sit inside cowering in the corner - you don't realize how much you feel like you NEED to stand up and say:
"Hey! I'm not gonna be afraid anymore!"

Prepared is one thing, but sticking next to the television 24/7 is another. Trust me, its a whole nother world down here and there really is no other way to convince you of that.

And Atta, I must ask, why is it okay for them to light fires of FEAR and nothing else but not okay for me to post and say that their information is B.S. and not really worthy of reporting?
I wish you best of luck (sincerely) if the storm does head your way. Actually, I wish everybody on this board the best of luck if the storm is to hit there. It's not fair that FL should be hit three times in 5 weeks...it's not supposed to happen that way.

Im just letting you know. I have someone I love dearly in Florida as well as many friends there as well. So I am here at my house watching this thing day in and day out. Its a hobby. And when you live on the gulf coast or atlantic coast some people include this in a hobby.

Also, since they do not know for sure where this thing is heading my family and I are getting ready just in case we need to go get things and such.

Really?

When is it set to hit? Tomorrow?

Hmmm.... well, in the mean time, let's all completely freak out, do nothing more than sit in front of the television news non-stop and stock up on all your water and batteries. I'd love to know what isn't "alarmist" about this post. Everyone can read the graphic that is already on that thread.

Oh, and don't forget to tape your windows.

You know what dude? No one around here needs that kind of attitude from a little snot-nosed kid that has no idea what he's talking about. You've got absolutely no respect for what it's like to own property and the subsiquent risks of losing said property three times now within a month. You've got no idea what it's like to go to bed wondering how much you're going to have to pay in replaced windows in the morning, or if you'll have a roof to even need the windows.

Now, we've been very lucky in our house, but I have many friends that were not - that did lose windows, parts of their roof, and in some cases, entire ceilings inside their homes from two of these storms. A catagory 5 storm is nothing to sit here and laugh about / make light of just because *you* have no respect. Yes, you should not panic about it, but you very well should be completely informed and very well prepared for something that could be potentially one of the most disasterous events in the history of the state.

I've said my piece. Take it however you want.
/end rant

I'm going to post the same thing here that I posted in the "official" Ivan thread. Let's move the debate over news handling and panic to chit-chat and get the information flowing again on the hurricane. That way, the ones that want the information can get it without the debate.

my father is in his condo on the gulf right now, he came to florida to help fix my grandma's house which was damaged by charley. My grandma also lost 2 trailers. So we are keeping an eye on Ivan, my dads really hoping he can get out of Florida before Ivan gets anywhere near Florida. But they still havent been able to get the roof on my grandma's house , I sure hope it can be done in the next couple days.
I too agree we do need to focus on Ivan updates, and put the debate to rest.

Well as I posted on the other thread, he is a 5 yes, but will he stay that strength that long, possibly not. It will be hard for him to keep that strength. He is 360 away from Kingston, Jamacia. Also, learned that its a mandatory evacuation for the keys of only guest and tourist, not homeowners yet. He is also a very rare storm to appear at this low in the carribean. All we can really do now is watch and see what else happens.

My problem has been (and still is) with these two threads is the amount of unsubstantiated fear pumped into the phrasing of the "CAT 5" thread. Look at how many media terrorist buzz words are in there. But I've already gone over that, and won't again.

I am sorry to be blunt, but maybe you need to take a break from the boards if they make you so angry. Every single posting I have read from you has been an angry tirade, and it seems as if this subject upsets you greatly - I have to question why you come back day after day to just get upset again.

This is a hot topic around here, but because these boards are completely dedicated to the "happiest place on Earth" and most people who post on these boards don't live there the information is going to be geared towards them, not so much people "in the thick of it".

People understand that there are people near Disney who are having a hard time, and really do care deeply - but lashing out at everyone that a) isn't sympathetic enough or b) overreacting in your opinion, really isn't helping anyone.

Good luck with the repairs. I hope they can get things fixed up and back home as soon as possible.

We do not need two Ivan threads. Alright, it's a cateogry 5. But now that we know, we can stop using this thread. This is ridiculous!! Watch the freaking hurricane, don't flood the boards :(

Hmmm, the NFL has moved the Dolphins/Titans game to Saturday because of Ivan. I guess the NFL is in a panic and they don't have reputable sources to have made a decision like this.

Hmmmm...understand that everybody is a little upset today because of the hurricane, but what's the difference if there is more than one thread? I don't think it hurts anybody, and if it does, just don't look at it! I read both threads...

and just so I have an update in this post. I just got this from CNN.com

The storm currently is heading for Jamaica with 160 mph winds. The most powerful hurricane to hit the Caribbean in nearly a decade, it already has killed at least 16 people, damaged 90 percent of Grenada's homes and destroyed a prison that left criminals running loose, officials said.

We need to keep Florida and those already hit by Ivan in our thoughts and prayers!

I think people are upset because this is a Disney News/Rumors forum and half the topics on this front page involve hurricanes. Maybe we need another board for "Weather Discussion"?
