Your wish is my command--you're now on my ignore list.

Personally, I think you're out of line on this.

I'm sorry that I attacked PhotoDave and like my sources credible and no, I no longer consider the Weather Channel Credible.

And I really feel sorry that you do.

EXACTLY!!!! MAKE SURE TO TAPE THEM TOO!!! LOTS AND LOTS OF TAPE!!!!
For someone who is so against these threads, you sure do like to post in them! About half of your total post count is in the two Ivan threads. Interesting.

You have serious issues, why all the negativity. what is the problem with people telling the latest information, what is wrong with that?

For someone who replies to a lot of my posts, you must not take a lot of time to read them. Let me reiterate

No, there isn't a problem with two threads and I surely don't have a problem with reading them - I just want people to NOT panic.

Like I said a million times over, my problem is not with PhotoDave or any of the threads or posters here (and please do not spin this into that) but rather with the uninformed public going apeshoot over something that in this stage of the game is no more than theory.

See? I just get angered when I see so much ignorance propagated. Okay, maybe not ignorance but half-truths.

YES - the wind speeds ARE over 150 mph but that is how far out into the ocean.
YES - people have been ordered to evacuate, but those being in mobile homes who are often the first to get evacuated simply because of the vulnerability of their living structures.

Eric, wanna, PLEASE do not get the impression that all I do is hate stuff, I just really do not want people to see this thread and continue to panic. You have to understand or at least ACKNOWLEDGE that none of your sources are "exact" sciences. You also have to at least ACKNOWLEDGE that the purpose of most of those news programs that you watch is more aimed at scaring you than anything else.

If you can't see that, I really don't know what more I can tell you. Jeez people, please, before you all get on your attack modes, at least read my posts and I mean ACTUALLY read them. PLEASE.

My point is that credibility is all in the eye of the beholder.

Ask yourself, before you jump back in defense of the sacred of sacred Weather Channel....

How SPOT ON was it?

I'm very glad that people are posting the most updated information. I wouldn't have known that Ivan was a cat. 5 hurricane because I wouldn't have taken the time to go through every page of the official thread (I'm at work...so I have to pretend that I'm working! :animwink: ) As for creating fear, I don't think this thread will create nearly the amount of panic that the media causes. Oh well...

Thank you to everybody who has posted information regarding the hurricane!

Exactly what has been written that is ignorant or half truth? I haven't seen anything of the sort here. All I've seen information about the storm and your complaints of that information being distributed.

I'm now with SpongeScott, you have the honor of being the first person on my ignore list!

Let me ask you something DisneyGirl... what purpose does it REALLY serve you to know all of this? A hurricane will change so many times - I know for a fact it changed at least once or twice within twelve hours of actually hitting downtown Orlando.

Now think about this - if you already admit that the media will cause panic - what will reiterating the media do then? Think about that for a second... it will cause exactly the same response - panic.

Weird Inside...may I ask why you continue to argue these points? If it annoys you so much, why do you continue? Walk away and save yourself the aggravation; unless of course you thrive on it. If this is the case then I'm sorry for you.

Weird_Inside,

I think we're all clear on your stance at this point. I think most of us are just using these threads for informational purposes. You may or may not feel that the information about Ivan posted here is relevant, but that's why they make different flavors of ice cream. I find the fact that Ivan is a Cat 5 right now an interesting detail that deserves to be noted, whether it's still a Category 5 or has been downgraded to a little pink puppy by this afternoon. I don't think anyone posting here is panicking, but even if they are, no one's beating down your door telling you to get out. Why not just let folks share information in what has been a fairly calm, rational manner, that I've observed?

Once again, I appreciate the response without name calling.

To tell you the truth is simply because this isn't an attitude that stops once the window closes. This whole "let's live off of media telling us exactly what to be afraid off" is just all over the place down here. It's not good for anyone.

If I can convince one person to at least THINK before they freak out and say, yes, windspeeds are up there, but its's also five days away from the states and MANY things could happen in the mean time: then I guess it's worth it.

And believe it or not, I don't sit here swearing at the screen hating everyone. This is fun. I believe that for the most part this has been a nice debate about the media over-reporting and telling half truths to the public.

It's not causing me any loss of sleep whatsoever.

I can understand your reasoning, but the people of Florida have been thru quite alot these past few weeks...they are shell shocked (much like what happened to us a few years ago :( ). If they find solace in watching the news reports to try to have control over their lives then so what? Who is it hurting?

I have many friends in Florida and I worry about them, these updates keep me informed. Live & let live, my friend...

I guess I just picked this thread as the pefect example of what angers me the most about the media coverage of this entire thing and needed to vent.

Are you in Florida? I ask this not to "call you out" but simply because I never really looked and don't feel like hitting the back button. Either way, the "coverage" is just insane and provides very little information and a lot of fear.

I guess my point was that this thread could have all been boiled down to a post in the intial thread saying...

" :( Looks like its a Level 5 at least to begin with. Hopefully, like most hurricanes it will be downgraded by the time it gets here but let's all hope that the people of Jamaica are okay. "

And then maybe a link. No need for the extra post because doing so heightens the tension for people. Starting an extra post is basically saying "Hey, this is so relevant that we need to know" and really, it isn't.

W_I,

Once again, let me say I respect your opinion, even if I disagree on what is "relevant" enough to warrant its own thread. I suppose that after seeing threads based on everything from when Small World will reopen to what Walt Disney liked to eat for breakfast to why the (insert football team of choice here) will be just AWESOME this year, the information in this thread seems plenty worthy to me...but that's my view.

And, no, I'm not in Florida, to answer your question; I live about an hour into Georgia, so I have that slight buffer zone. I also work in a newsroom, so I'm somewhat aware firsthand of what can go on from the media end of these things, as well.

The debate over what is newsworthy and what is agenda-driven hype is not a new one to me...but I think the media has done a fairly decent job with this storm from where I sit, anyway.

Again, just one rhubarb's opinion.
