Hurricane Irma

Heard from a friend of a friend who is in Key West. They work for the Chamber of Commerce, so maybe that has something to do with their staying. Anyway, they're at the Marriott with 1000 other people who decided to ride out the storm.

Surprised that many stayed - and surely more in other hotels, but there you have it.

Just hoping El Siboney is still there after the storm's gone...

Wow.. and I've heard other reports of people at different hotels, homes, and the last minute shelter/high school. I wonder if people from the other islands decided to go to Key West.

I hope everything is still there!!!!

Put something in writing. A friend had a neighbor's tree fall and damage my friend's house. Home owner insurance will NOT pay for a tree that falls on your house. The only recourse is to have a request in writing to have the tree removed, so that the neighbor is liable for the damage.

Actually home owner's insurance will pay for a tree that falls on your house, even from another yard. I know this because our oak in the backyard broke off during some straight line winds a few years ago during tornado season (<50mph) and it fell down and brushed against our neighbour's house (different one) and it damaged her shingles and gutters. I was going to call our insurance company but she told me that hers is the one responsible. I called ours to be sure and they said the same thing.

Is this anyone's boat? Because it's gone now. Was watching the live cam
in Key West and it flew sideways across the screen and out to sea. Must of got ripped away from the buoy it was attached to.

You're from the Keys, right? Where are you now. On a side note, I've been on this forum since 2013. I see you joined June 2016. You've way surpassed me in Messages and Likes Received. Don't get me wrong. I enjoy being on this forum. But I try to balance things out with other things. Anyway, just an observation. Back to the hurricane discussion.

my husband went through Katrina. He lived in Chalmette with his family.

I helped my girlfriend and her husband clean out her house ---and my next door neighbor, who lived in Arabi at the time. I still get chills when I drive past where Hannan school, and the shopping center was because it's not like it was before......Even my girlfriend's street has very few who rebuilt.....

The stupidity and potentially self-destructive behavior of humans never ceases to amaze me
Kinda like WDW bloggers/videographers that decided to get rooms at the resort just so they could video the pre-during-post Irma? They are fortunate that they are taking less of a direct hit than previously thought.

I haven't read this entire thread but how does each Disney hotel handle hurricanes? I mean the value and moderate resorts have rooms that open to the outside.

Just got a wonderful email from Disney World about our vacation that we pushed back a week because of Irma (we were to be there yesterday).
They gave us all of our planned fast passes to rides and attractions we originally picked to use at any time during our stay (of course thats only good once per ride), but how awesome is that!!!! Which when I had to redo our fast passes, I did loose several.

I don't want to stray off topic but I'll quickly respond..

I'm not from the Keys, only lived there, then after I moved to the mainland I visited the Keys at least once or twice per month for 17 years after. Trips are sadly not bimonthly the past 4 years though.

As far as my posts.. I post a lot in one thread typically.lol. Leave it up while at work and respond.

As far as life outside of this site, I hate to defend myself, but a couple of people on this site are "Facebook"/instagram friends of mine now.. you're welcome to ask them if I have a life. Since joining I've had a surgery that took me out of commission for awhile, and looked like Frankenstein for a few months after that.. we've been on a Disney trip, and 4 other non Disney trips, a few of them are in my trip reports.. while we're in town we're at an amusement park, zoo, event, or museum every week.. coupled with sports practices, and games in between. Then add in Cub Scout meetings/events, golf camps, and baseball lessons in addition to all of that... some of it I can't make it to due to work though.. so kiddo goes with a caregiver.

I have a job where I work a carp ton of hours, but can easily post in a thread or two while working. Don't let my posts fool you into thinking that my life is too slow. If I could change time to include 28 hours in a day, I would...because 24 is usually not enough.lol
Gave you another like.:)

I can post whenever I want - I'm on permanent vacation, called retirement!
