Which ones can you get to work?
For me-
Ft Zach- still black.
Dolphin Research Center- offline.
Southernmost Point- offline.
Islamorada- not loading.
I stopped checking after that.
Those may not be for Disney.. they could be using that as a staging area for repairs outside of WDW, just because its on property doesn't mean its for WDW... Up here in New England we see staging areas for line crews before and after big winter snow/ice storms. These aren't necessarily at a utilities company facility.
They are very slow to load but some cameras were showing almost 2000 viewers - not sure how this would affect a server that would no doubt not be expecting the world and his wife to be watching at the same time. There are still people taking photos - are they insane?
You never have driven that road have you? 3 hours to Miami is under NO traffic. When there is traffic or just one accident that road can back up for hours and like stamps said if storm comes in over one of those bridges or one of narrow keys your car is going to be taken out to sea.Car trouble would be disastrous. That, I grant you. Although if you leave now, or even tomorrow morning you would still very likely be able to get help.
But the road? Come on. It's 3 hours, maybe a touch more from Key West to Miami. And if I'm trying to outrun a hurricane, I'll get there in 2.
There could possibly be someone in Key West on the fence about evacuating and you literally just said it is too dangerous to evacuate when the first rain bands are still what... 100? 200? miles away. This is seriously idiotic advice. I'm not saying you should wait until tomorrow night to evacuate, but given the choices between riding it out because it is too dangerous to leave right now (lol?) or making a run for it around sunset tomorrow, I'm making that drive.
Thank you!Same here! Hopefully Orlando and the surrounding areas don't get as much damage as they say (I'm praying that this storm will keep going west). Good luck with your training!

The stupidity and potentially self-destructive behavior of humans never ceases to amaze me

This is why I had hoped to see an Islamorada cam. If waves are coming up like that at the southernmost point, I can't even imagine what's going on and roads near Islamorada.
A lot of those areas flood in normal summer storms. Back in the early 2000's DeVol Street had a few feet of water on it from a tropical storm, not even hurricane force winds
Well if it keeps going west it would hit Houston and if that would happen I don't think there would be anything left of Houston.Irma now a category 3 with sustained winds of 125 mph. While I feel for Cuba, my thanks to that island for taking her down a notch. My hope? She continues in a westward direct and never turns north.
@Tony the Tigger, glad you got your baby out of doggie prison and you and your hubby are with family. The parks look lovely - the calm before the storm, literally.
Stay safe.
Oh, and Happy Anniversary!
You're from the Keys, right? Where are you now. On a side note, I've been on this forum since 2013. I see you joined June 2016. You've way surpassed me in Messages and Likes Received. Don't get me wrong. I enjoy being on this forum. But I try to balance things out with other things. Anyway, just an observation. Back to the hurricane discussion.
I don't want to stray off topic but I'll quickly respond..
I'm not from the Keys, only lived there, then after I moved to the mainland I visited the Keys at least once or twice per month for 17 years after. Trips are sadly not bimonthly the past 4 years though.
As far as my posts.. I post a lot in one thread typically.lol. Leave it up while at work and respond.
As far as life outside of this site, I hate to defend myself, but a couple of people on this site are "Facebook"/instagram friends of mine now.. you're welcome to ask them if I have a life. Since joining I've had a surgery that took me out of commission for awhile, and looked like Frankenstein for a few months after that.. we've been on a Disney trip, and 4 other non Disney trips, a few of them are in my trip reports.. while we're in town we're at an amusement park, zoo, event, or museum every week.. coupled with sports practices, and games in between. Then add in Cub Scout meetings/events, golf camps, and baseball lessons in addition to all of that... some of it I can't make it to due to work though.. so kiddo goes with a caregiver.
I have a job where I work a carp ton of hours, but can easily post in a thread or two while working. Don't let my posts fool you into thinking that my life is too slow. If I could change time to include 28 hours in a day, I would...because 24 is usually not enough.lol
Hurricanes are the only things that I don't miss about SoFla. LolThanks. Reading between the lines I can infer you're safe from the hurricane. As for the other just a curiosity. I can understand posting while recuperating. Glad you're better. I get posting during work. Sometimes I think I post more than I should.
Okay, enough of that. Back to the hurricane.
