Hurricane Irma

5:00 PM Update:

Still at 125 mph. Tornado earnings in both Broward and Collier Counties. Expected to come in to Florida as Cat 4.

There's an upper level wind sheer that may help disrupt the storm, but not before it makes landfall. But maybe before it reaches North Florida.

Where is it projected to hit in Florida first? Has that been updated?

Is it absolutely certain that it will hit them, or is there any chance that Irma could move far enough west for at least the eye to miss?

They indicated the eye is beginning to move off Cuba.

To paraphrase Horace Greeley, "Go West, Irma, go West"

Yep, directly from American Airlines. I'm checking other airlines at the moment to see if there are any leaving, and at the moment, Frontier still has one leaving Tuesday night. All others have been cancelled.

Now, Southwest says that all of their flights are still going, but they're all sold out, so I don't know if that means they're cancelled or not.
Because my job training got pushed back to Tuesday I decided to fly home for the storm. My Southwest flight Tuesday morning from Milwaukee to orlando was cancelled already this morning. They said all of their Tuesday flights were cancelled as a precaution. I have an evening flight booked on frontier so fingers crossed that is able to go, otherwise I'm on a southwest flight back Friday..

I have an afternoon Frontier flight scheduled now so hopefully everything goes well for the both of us!

Question. Other than the solar farm, does Disney have any way to power the parks? I honestly can't see them reopening Tuesday.

Maybe massive gasoline powered generators? I can't see those powering everything though.

Frankly, those should be at the resorts. But if so, they must be well disguised - never seen any at the resorts I've stayed in.

I think most resorts /major hotels have some type of back up system. At least to the main areas. If you are staying at a roach motel on 192, good luck

They do already seem to have crews on site to fix what needs fixing.

Those may not be for Disney.. they could be using that as a staging area for repairs outside of WDW, just because its on property doesn't mean its for WDW... Up here in New England we see staging areas for line crews before and after big winter snow/ice storms. These aren't necessarily at a utilities company facility.

Fingers crossed! Mines at 4:55. I'm going to start checking flights again Monday after most of the storm is gone and see what might be available. If it looks like Orlando is relatively ok of course.
Same here! Hopefully Orlando and the surrounding areas don't get as much damage as they say (I'm praying that this storm will keep going west). Good luck with your training!

Disney generates I believe around 40% of their own power, so they have power generation beyond the solar farm. Not sure if they could open the parks on just that, but it should be enough to power the resorts.

I have a feeling they will do what they did last year. Apparently by Monday evening the hurricane will be gone. I suspect they will open Disney springs or portions of it. The parks are questionable depending on the severity.
