I put this to use right now:

"14. Freeze pint sized water bottles As the storm nears, start feezing as much water as you can fit in your freezer. Not only did I freeze small bottles, but I ran the ice maker constantly and filled gallon zip lock freezer bags with cubes. I also froze water filled storage containers. Not only would these work as ice packs for your cooler, but then you had drinking water after they melted. We never lost water, but it was good to know we had plenty."

Let the ice maker work for you. What happens when it fills up? It stops. Zip lock bag that ice so that the bin is empty and fills up again. Great tip!

While the decrease in wind speed is welcomed, the continued shift to the west isn't, as it means more of the Panhandle will be affected.

According to the recent NOAA map, as the storm passes through Central Florida, winds will be hurricane strength at 74 - 110 mph. Sunday night and Monday are gonna be bad at WDW if this track is accurate. Given how far out the winds extent, I would expect the parks to close sometime Saturday - I can't see the rationale for opening the parks Sunday - the weather is only going to get worse as the day progresses and many rides won't be operating. The storm is expected to make landfall early Sunday morning.

@MaximumEd, that's bad news for rural Alabama. Hope your governor is putting plans in place. Looks like y'all will get it late Monday, early Tuesday.

That's what I've been doing

Just an FYI. As aid a couple days ago Columbus weekend was completely sold out in property. As of this morning there is some availability from people canceling I'm sure.

Thankfully the storm has weakened a pretty good bit over the last 24 hours. Still a nasty storm, but a 145mph storm coming in 40-50 miles southwest of Miami is significantly better than a 170-180mph storm coming in right over the top of Miami.

Maybe, just maybe, the absolute worst of the impacts will be over the sparsely populated Everglades and Big Cypress as opposed to the I-95 corridor from Homestead to West Palm.

The current estimate are for 50% without power in the Orange/Osceola areas. Overall they expect 2.5 million locations w/out power. Major substations and delivery lines will certainly fail during this storm. Recovery will take sometime; honestly, I'll be surprised of WDW is up and running Tuesday; They will be severely short staffed; just clean up alone will be a major undertaking; not to mention i'm sure their own staff may not be able to get to work or have any utilities at their own home. Now the storm does seem to be going more west which may change the winds a bit. but 80-110 mph sustained winds for hours is going make a mess of the area.

The storm weakened because of eye-wall replacement that happens in hurricanes, it gain strength again, however some of the mountains in Cuba may help rip some of it up.

If I had to guess, expect WDW closed late Sat through Monday. Tuesday right now is a crapshoot, depending on the severity of the storm.

Guess the latest is saying about 100mph max winds for Central Florida which is still scary but better than 140 or 150 which South Florida will feel.
