Hurricane Irma

I understand. I just know it will push more people to stay.

And now you've got the thousands of people the cruise ships dropped off. From the couple of brief interviews I watched, it didn't appear the cruise lines were assisting the passengers they just dumped in Miami. DCL probably being the exception. That's what you get for cruising Carnival....

Apparently 75 is bumper to bumper all the way to Atlanta. Wow.

150 miles of straight traffic. yikes! I'd still take it over the Cross Bronx at 5PM.

UM game is likely to be rescheduled for 10/7. If they do cancel ULM it won't be made up (like our game against Arkansas State).

Yeah, let's make up the games that count, not those cupcakes we are/were all playing Saturday. But that bites for those cupcake teams, if they lose the payments promised.

I would have dropped them off at a port a little further north - not one in the middle of an evacuation zone. And helped them make arrangements to get home. The one woman I saw interviewed was rather upset - she didn't know how she was now going to get home.

Right?! There isn't a flight or rental car left in the area. Those people are literally stranded? I'm just in shock that the cruise lines would do such a thing.

But they have no water.....
Didn't you know? Cakes are essential items for that hurricane party Bob down the street is throwing. ;)

(Actually there are a few people I know from high school posting on Facebook about how they're throwing a party for the hurricane. This is not a Nor'Easter!)

I haven't had any personal experience with them in this type of situation, but I have heard that they were willing to bend their policies in situations like these.

I can guarantee they will honor anything. When a hurricane is involved especially one hitting Florida all policies go out the window and refunds and exceptions are made without any hesitation.

Ship will also run out of food. Not like they can extend the cruise for a few more days. I guess they could but>>>>

Not sure a cruise line could help people out of this situation? At least if drove there you have a shot of driving out.

If DCL can get from Castaway Cay to Port Canaveral overnight, then other cruise ships should have been able to turn north and dropped passengers some where else beside Miami. I'm sure they have provisions for at least another day or two. I realize I eat a lot of shrimp on my cruises, but not the entire ship's supply.

The bridge contacts the major carriers at MIA, asking them to have ticket agents with tablets at the port available to help passengers upon disembarkation who are flying home. You pretty please ask the carriers to give THOSE folks priority over booking new flights (especially since YOU created the problem). You ask the stewards to contact passengers in the cabins they service to get a head count of whose flying back and where to and you provide that to the carriers in advance, hoping they could have already rebooked their flights. That's what you do. You don't dump them at the port in Miami and say "it was a great trip, have fun trying to get home".
