When I realized TWC was coming to Tallahassee, I thought, "Please don't let it be Cantore!"

That one looks like it has a hinge system. Has it just been lowered for the storm?

"Let's start at the beginning, a very good place to start..."The look on his face says it all. He doesn't know where to begin with a mess that size!
That dipwad Jim Cantore was in Miami and appeared genuinely disappointed when the storm veered westward and avoided a direct hit on Miami. Sorry Jim, Mother Nature wasn't in the mood to contribute to the sensationalism of The Weather Channel and their hashtag style of reporting.
I am not going to bog down this thread with this but if that's your opinion - that it's not a concern to ostracize children socially to their classmates (or not meet *your* expectations of "100% participation") who can't afford to bring $5 a day for a week to school in addition to having separate "high school", "college", and "NFL" wear - means that it's a rich kids prep school and you don't realize that it's not the norm and to think otherwise is the height of snobbery.
It would be a horrible thing to do at a public school - do you realize how many kids in this country have to get assistance just for lunch money? Saying "let the kids...who can't, don't" is cruel, and you should know that if your school requires uniforms - one of the primary reasons which schools do uniforms is to prevent kids from being judged by their appearance.
If you were just asking for "small donations from those who can" and everyone was allowed to participate regardless, that might be one thing (though the very specific "uniform" of NFL, College, etc. is still problematic) - but to post the way you have suggesting that everyone should do this at their schools shows and screw the kids who couldn't afford it is just...terrible.
Jim Cantore is a bit overly dramatic sometimes, and it's undoubtedly helped him become a "celebrity" in the weather field.
But if you watch him during non-storm coverage, it's very clear that he's extremely knowledgeable about weather. Far beyond your average local weather man or weather woman.
And I have zero doubt he's already forgotten more about weather than all the clowns criticizing him on this thread have ever known about it.

Any guesses on how long cleanup will take? (Fallen trees cleared, landscaping restored, lampposts fixed, etc.)
It's like the tree is saying, "Here, let me help you with your ventilation..."
What couldn't the tree take those ugly stone structures out? BTW I thought those were supposed to be getting yanked out soon? From Twitter
I think you mean hurricane Charley of 2004. I visited in December that year and downed trees were visible in the wooded areas, but none out in the open. The resort itself? Likely a few days for the big stuff. Weeks/months until all landscaping is totally resorted. But overall evidence it happened? Potentially years, depending on how things end up.
The actual resort will likely be fine and everything will be up and running in a day or two depending on (crossing fingers) no significant damage to structures, but the after effects may very well be visible for a long time.
So anyone worrying about a vacation even by this weekend is needlessly worrying.
@marni1971 - how many years were those uprooted trees visible from the monorails after Katrina?
Absolutely. Most areas will just look how some of us remember them with less foliage. The resort itself? Likely a few days for the big stuff. Weeks/months until all landscaping is totally resorted. But overall evidence it happened? Potentially years, depending on how things end up.

Is that the pool at Congress Park? Just returned from a stay there on 8/25.
I have been stunned by the complete exploitation and insensitivity I have seen on just about every major televised outlet and this event. They get in peoples faces in shelters and try to goad them into telling dramatic stories, and the reporters/harassers are visually upset when rushing around like idiots trying to get people to say live on the air what they want - and when it's "we left, came to the shelter, made it fine" they keep rushing around during their 2-minute allotment until they can get someone with a "better", more dramatic story they can then re-run all day to show their reporters/harassers "in the thick of it".
If there was any question whatsoever that criticism of our media was somehow a political issue, this very non-partisan event and the coverage of it has sealed that answer up with a big bow on top.
At least they are getting called out on it...
