Hurricane Irma

Anyone see a problem with planning a trip for 9/15, next Friday? Seems it should have blown through by then and barring any damages, maybe good to go?

Damage is the key.

First off, the possibility exists that a tornado touches down.

But if that doesn't happen, there's still the matter of damage to, not just the attractions, but the related infrastructure in the whole region. Power could be out. Water may not be available (if no running water in the park bathrooms they may not legally be allowed to open). The storm could disturb dangerous wildlife. Staffing could be inadequate if CM's are dealing with their own damage.

A person who's driving distance, maybe. Flying distance, I wouldn't buy a non-refundable ticket right now.

Would you mind sharing what he said? The video's blocked here.

Basically he's staying because he wants to see the damage to his business afterwards. He doesn't recommend for people to do the same. He praised Governor Scott for their readiness and ordering everyone to evacuate. His family went to the mainland, he realizes this storm is huge, and he knows that he is staying at his own risk. That no one will be able to help if 911 is needed.
---

As a side note, I think the last bus out (they were running free busses for evacuees) left an hour or two ago. Outer bands can hit soon and no one is supposed to drive north now. Too risky to get caught on a bridge in high wind or storm surge. Anyone left is there for the long haul.

@sudokujesus Is this your brother ;)

Seriously though, it's a good video. God help these people who chose to stay. This guy realizes what he's doing, he sounds very calm.

A day or two ago I would have probably felt okay riding it out in Key West, but since things have trended westward, I'd get out as a course of least regret. That guy doesn't sound like an idiot though. I hope he knows what he is doing. And is in a reinforced concrete/steel structure.

Stay in Tally. I stopped in a nearby sports bar in Tally and met a couple from Key West who I know is safe compared to their home. You don't want to be on the traffic on the road. You're better off staying and hunkering down. It will be a Cat 1 or TS by the time it arrives here.
Keeps looking worse and worse. It's a very real possibility this scrapes the coast and hits Tallahassee higher than Cat 1. This city would be a disaster and I'm not sure I want to stick around for that.

One of my friends felt the same 2 days ago.. but the fear of police, doctors, nurses, military, etc all being gone, and the chance of bridges beying destroyed, made him realize that it just wasn't worth it. Even if the Lower Keys weren't hit hard, the damage in the Upper Keys could still completely cut everyone off.

Kind of like some other topics in here.... it's not funny nor timely after the fourth or fifth time

I meant the picture and the tag line about there being no work on the castle, not the initial hoax.

Hmm I was expecting something a little more up in the clouds, but it sounds like he's well aware of the implications.

In other news (I'm not sure it hasn't been posted): the NHC now has the eye most probably going straight for the 7-mile bridge. Not good.
