HTF Tweets

The funny thing is, one of his most recent tweets was bragging he now has over 2300 followers. I like HTF, don't get me wrong, but I also feel he is slowly falling into this whole false fame nonsense with the amount of twitter followers one has... almost as if he is trying to make up for a lack of something in his life, and twitter fulfills it or something... I don't know.

It wasn't a particularly cocky brag, though, just thanking those who follow him.

oh oh oh i get it now

Wait, so does that mean that fantasmic will go gone? it was probably covered in the thread, though.

This is a limited time offering that is only supposed one through the end of September. Fant will still run as far as I know, the show will be in the premier theater and that's pretty much I like that.

May not have been a cocky brag, but, did you notice how, several months ago, he was offering information if he reached certain follower plateau? If he didn't care about the amount of followers he had, and was only doing this cause he enjoyed it, then he wouldn't have been looking for his followers numbers to increase. Like I said, he appears to be falling into that "I need internet fame in the theme park community" black hole that swallows too many up. Do it for fun, who cares about how many followers you get. He'd grow on reputation alone. Instead he looked like he was begging for followers by offering information on Diagon alley and other projects.

I'm not Twitter savvy. Can ads be attached to tweets like the way some youtube videos will have ads attached once they reach a certain number of views, as advertisers know this link has generated interest? Maybe the lure for more followers was more about making some extra money than ego. I honestly don't know, just throwing it out there

I'm not Twitter savvy either so no idea if ads are attached to posts or clicks or whatnot... But, let us say they are. Wouldn't that reek of desperation, begging people to follow so he gets more clicks so he makes more money? Yes, I think begging does reek of desperation. It is one thing to sucker people into thinking e tickets are coming by putting out a sarcastic message and sitting back to watch the fanboys lather themselves up with pixie dusted lube... it is another to beg and plead for people to follow you.

This is why I said, I hope HTF isn't falling into the black hole so many have fallen into... but it appears he slowly is.

No, that's not how Twitter works. Ads are plainly labeled as such and don't work anything like YouTube.

Thank you for letting us know exactly how the ads work on Twitter. So, because of this information, it makes HTF look even worse begging for followers with the promise of information about Diagon Alley. Simply looking for that internet fame.

When ads are attached to other videos on youtube, they are plainly labeled as ads as well. In fact many of them offer a 5-second countdown, meaning after 5 seconds you are allowed to click off the ad and get to the video you originally wanted. Sometimes, even a video that was posted to be an ad itself can have an attached ad in front of it for a completely different product. If you're looking for a trailer for an upcoming movie (an ad) there might be a mentos or pepsi ad, or an ad for a TV show, something that the ad buyers assume you'd like based on your interest in that trailer.

I'm not necessarily arguing that he wants fame, only that his brag was more of a "humblebrag." He wasn't writing like someone who thinks he's the shiznit as the kids like to say (if those kids came out of a time machine from the mid-90s), he was thanking those who follow him. OF COURSE he wants some degree of fame, he not only has his twitter feed he cohosts podcasts. Even if he's not profiting from the twitter feed, he could be selling advertising on his podcast, and he could use the twitter feed to steer people to the podcast just like any other celebrity might use their twitter feed or facebook page or any other social media to steer fans to their product so they can up their asking price.

And good for him. I don't know what you do for a living, and whatever it is, I hope you love it because life is that much better when you can do what you love and love what you do. But if you COULD make a living, or supplement your living, talking about freaking theme parks, wouldn't you at least be tempted?

I know how YouTube Ads work, that's why I said Twitter ads aren't like them. Twitter doesn't approach users with large followings and offer to monetize their accounts like YouTube does.

If you have an ad on Twitter you have to pay for it and it will be very obvious it's an ad. You don't get paid via Twitter, you PAY Twitter.

I see. When you wrote "Ads are plainly labeled as such," I was only responding to that, as ads on youtube are also labeled as ads, if they are paid ads.

Not following... eh don't bother i wont get it
Going to try anyway. Youtube - you can get paid for video views. Twitter - you pay to have a tweet (or an account) show up in people's feeds/searches.

There's no monetization on Twitter, you can't make money from it unless you're a business looking to gain customers.

Right.. we covered the bragging, patting himself on the back, thanking people for following him thing... Like I said, maybe he wasn't cocky bragging...

And I'm not attacking the guy... I enjoy his posts, I think he is one of the best UNIVERSAL sources out there (maybe the best), and I really like OU and their podcast... They have a wonderful community over there, and yes, I find their podcast very entertaining... What I am saying, and been saying, is I hate to see HTF fall into that black hole where so many have fallen before... Stay true to what you were, don't become something you aren't... I have nothing against anyone who tries to make a little extra cash... and I'm sure the guys running OU and their podcast want the extra income flow to help offset the costs... heck, even Steve has a premium membership where you can pay to be a member here, thus helping offset his costs... Nothign wrong with that... I also don't see Steve posting rubbish on Twitter or on his site just to get members to join or to get the clicks... Steve gets the views and members he has here, and followers on Twitter (WDWMagic does have a twitter account right?) based on reputation of reporting the news and being a top source for all things Disney (and some Universal)... OU is trying to be the top source for all things Universal, and I hope it works out for them, again, i love their site (they too have a VIP membership in which you can pay to help offset the costs)...

I just feel, lately, HTF has too much of an obsession with getting twitter followers... And I hate to see him become something he hasn't been nor needs to be in order to get the following or the respect...

It's simple... You can buy ads on twitter... You can't place your own or get paid for twitter's ads

Twitter ads are sponsored tweets and promoting users/trends

People want followers to build up an audience for their message so when they say or post something it gets in front of a lot of people in a trusted channel

Register on WDWMAGIC. This sidebar will go away, and you'll see fewer ads.
