Just wondering how everyone's V-Day was? Mine was pretty fun. I went to my bf's house. We fixed dinner and just sat around. Pretty much like any other night. lol. But he got me a really pretty ring! He told me he got me a necklace. So this was a nice surprise! How was your day?

:( Oh man, that does suck! My bf and I aren't real big on V-Day. That's why we decided to just chill at his house. That stinks that you weren't with your wife! And even worse that you're sick!! Hope you feel better soon!

Mine was great! I got to do something I love: going to the movies! :lookaroun :D

I went to see a VERY good one called "Le auberge espagnole" - if you haven´t seen it, go see it! It made me remember my time in Orlando living with people from all over the world!

Then went to see Master and Commander which I thought was ok, and from there, to dinner with my friends.

I had fun, that´s what counts. :)

Glad you had fun Maria!

I still haven't seen master and commander. I wonder if the video places here will stock the other movie you mentioned.

The other one I saw, I am not sure of the name in English. It´s a French-Spanish production with only young people in it. The editing is interesting - kinda like Amelie´s- and it was funny and I really felt connected to it.
It´s about this french guy who moves to Spain as part of an interchange with "Erasmus" for a year. He shares an apartment with other five from different countries. I do hope that you don´t see it dubbed, because the accents are so real! It was seriously like living at The Commons! (Disney´s housing for internationals). It also shows you how this guy´s mind opens when living with them. :animwink:

I love foreign films. I try never to see them dubbed, I like subtitles much better (I can't stand dubbing) if it is done in any way like Amelie I am sure I would love it.

Thanks for the suggestion!

I had a lovely, rainy, Valentine's day. My husband and I went out for a delicious brunch, including a wine flight each. We came home, where the combination of wine and rain contributed to a looong nap.

He and my son went out and rented movies. I'm embarrased to say that I FINALLY watched "Finding Nemo." :o

My daughter called to wish me a Happy Valentine's day, and we also stopped by to see my mother and give her a little gift.

I already had fresh flowers this week, chocolates are a no-no (although I did sneak one of my husband's) and I hardly wear the jewelry I have, so I really didn't want anything.

Mine was good :)

I started out bummed b/c I am REALLY sick of the cold weather, plus, John was at work all morning. But he came home with a Death By Chocolate (my dessert of choice back when we were dating) and my annual dozen roses to commemorate his "first move" on Valentine's Day '98. He is a sap, but he's MY sap, and I love him!

We did an early dinner to avoid the crowds but even at 3:00, we had a 15 minute wait! Good thing we didn't go any later. After that we came home and watched Lord of the Rings (we'd never seen it) and Secondhand Lions (enjoyable movie, but I'm glad we didn't pay theater-prices for it).

Spent the day trying to keep the kids from killing each other.
We each got a box of chocolate & a cute card from my hubby.
My little one baked Cinnamon rolls for her Dad and Lil'mermaid baked a chocolate cake (with chocolate icing , of course).
Had great grilled Cajun shrimp, noodles, asparagus & salad for dessert & then just vegged out in front of the tv (just a little under the weather).
I'm also tired of the snow & cold and I just can't wait for spring.

I also spent most of the day trying to keep the kids from killing each other. After hubby got home (works nights), we gave the kids their gifts and he actually got me something. A computer game (Sims - yes, I'm behind) and a card from the kids. This was the first time he's done anything in 10 yrs.

We (the kids and I) went out to lunch with my mom (Joe's Crab Shack), and then shopping. Our mall is having a circus this weekend, so the kids enjoyed watching that.

After coming home I cleaned and baked a heart shaped choc. cake that I decorated. Then I made dinner. Nothing special. One of my best friends stoped by and our kids exchanged gifts.

Mine was just like any other day, but that's OK because Valentine's Day isn't really for me (possibly because I've never had a valentine?) I just don't like the idea of a holiday created by a greeting card company. Anyway my day was spent putting the rear-view mirror back on in my car and putting new windshield wipers on. Then I worked from 5 untill 11:30 at night. We were busy thanks to Valentine's Day

No complaints here. Gave the DW sunrise roses and a card. I got some chocolates (her favorites......hhmmmmmm) and a card also. With a new born we just relaxed and took pics of the kids in their Valentine's themed outfits. Oh, and ordered take out from Romano's Macaroni Grill.

Sorry to hear it was just another day for you.

St. Valentine's day is not a holiday created by greeting card companies though.

It is much much older than any Hallmark ;)

Our holiday today is the vestigialremains of what was once known as the Lupercal. And that great feast of the ancients was really meant for teens and unmarried people.

What would happen (and I am sure some of the singles here might quite enjoy the festival) is that the unmarried teen boys would draw names of the unmarried teen girls from a box. The girl whose name he had drawn would then be his sexual partner and temporary wife for one year, until the next lupercal. Basically, hot and heavy dating made easy.

When Christianity made the scene, the ritual was changed and the names of saints were placed in the box. (Doesn't sound as much fun to me). To make people interested in the new ritual and to replace the pagan god Lupercus a patron saint for the feast was needed. The pope chose St. Valentine, because way back when the emperor had forbidden soldiers to marry and St. Valentine would perform wedding ceremonies of soldiers in love with girls in secret (because of which he was imprisioned and due in part to him falling in love with the jail warden's daughter, then literally lost his head).

The holiday has since been a celebration of young love, puppy love, crushes and now, love in general.

But, greeting card companies merely capitalized on the holiday, they didn't create it.

Mother's day, and Father's day however ARE invented holidays by companies. But hey, we should have had those days before anyway!

Mine was boring. I had a wrestling tournament in the morning, that lasted until around 4. After that, I just watched movies all night.
