How to not get wet on Splash Mountain?

Deff sit on the left side of the flume when you enter. At times they have a splash cannon that goes off and the right tends to get more wet. Besides that the Feb. March time period the water is not as high as the summer. I never get too wet every feb.

There is no doubt you will get 'some' wet on this ride. All depends on timing and where your sitting. There is usually water on the seats when you get in, too. Just go and have fun. Stand in the sun later and dry out. :)

I got it......

The best way to ride and not get a single drop of water on you without the use of ponchos or anything.......is to watch a video recording of the entire ride either on YouTube or something along those lines. You get to ride along (in a way) and you don't get wet. Yay! :D

(Otherwise, there really is NO particular spot in the logs where you won't get wet. I've ridden in each section of a log and while some parts seem to get the most water, EVERY section is bound to get you a splash (big or small). I've also found that with the water cannons as you go around the briar patch in the beginning of the ride.....that is where you get the most wet, and not so much on the big drop at the end.)

Honestly EVERYTIME I have rode this I sat in the back row on the left side and Ive never got wet.
If anyone wants to get wet while riding Splash Mountain don't sit near me. No matter where I sit...back, front, right or left I don't seem to get a drop of water on me.
I'm going to see if I can get in the middle somewhere, maybe I'll have better luck next time!

We've skipped Splash Mountain all three times we've had an opportunity, because our family only goes in the off-season, when it's too cool for wet clothes / shoes to dry out quickly. Yeah, we could just bring extra clothes, but the PITA of getting a locker or lugging around extra clothes just doesn't seem worth it.

We thought about doing the poncho thing. Would we be the only ones in line doing it?

Probably not....Just don't wear your ponchos in line. Put them on after you get in your log.

3rd what if someone likes to ride splash mountain b/c its a fun ride, its long, the nastalsia (sp) of splash mountain, so that they can ride all the rides in the park, the lines are short, etc. case and point theres a lot more reasons to ride a water ride other then getting soaked, some people just like the RIDE....

That would be me. I LOVE the ride...I HATE getting wet. I've done it many times, sat in different places, always got wet to varying degrees.

But I'll never wear a poncho!

Its all depends on the weight of the riders and their distriburion within the log. We always ride anticipating getting wet - we're not too disappointed when we then get off soaked

I've ALWAYS gotten wetter from the water cannons at the beginning than I ever have at the end of the ride on the drop. How wet the water cannons get you is entirely luck of the draw, based on where you are in relation to the log in front of you (and how long you spend idling before going up the first hill) and the logs coming down.

However, last week, I noticed that later in the week (when it got significantly cooler) the cannons were turned off.

I use a modified poncho method. I don't put my poncho on, but use it as a tarp or a shield when passing the water cannon and for the big drop. It works pretty well.

Oh boy. You will all love me on this one. I have taken this concept to a whoooole new level. Although I applied my ideas to Kali River Rapids, it will work for Splash Mountain, I'm sure. I think I'm about to earn a new nickname...but here goes.

Last May hubby and I took our 15th anniversary trip to WDW sans the kiddos. We have always taken the kiddos during colder months so we never had been on Kali River Rapids (and Splash Mountain maybe once or twice). I had seen the YouTube ride-thrus (which was previously suggested by another poster) but I always wanted to see it for myself. The difference is seeing a little window or being out there soaking in the scenery (no pun intended). I do NOT like getting wet on water rides for several reasons.

1. I'm a girly-girl. I do not want my hair or face messed up.
2. Not into soggy feet in crocs or flip-flops or anything.
3. Not into wet, sticky clothes. Ew.
4. Have you ever smelled that water??? OMG! It's disgusting! And once it's on you you get to smell like old, funky feet for the rest of the day which takes me back to #1 because I would be miserable if my hair smelled that way or had the smell on my face where I can't just wash it off right away (without reapplying all my makeup). Also, the smell issue carries me back to #3 because I'd be very unhappy and uncomfortable with my clothing smelling funky even after it dried.

Again, I didn't want to miss the scenery and the ride experience of Kali during a trip that would be warm enough to make it possible. So I created what I call my "Kali Packs". The contents of a Kali Pack are as follows:

- 1 disposable cloth (found by mops & scrub brushes at the store), cut in half
- 1 travel pack of baby wipes
- 2 cheap, clear, colorless throw-away rain ponchos (I got mine at Walmart for 87 cents each)
- 2 tall kitchen garbage bags
- 1 gallon size ziplock bag

All these items will fit inside the gallon size ziplock bag which is easy to pop into a shoulder bag or backpack for the day.

So how did it work? Perfect! This is what I did: While in line take out the Kali Pack and get started. Take everything out of the ziplock and put your camera, cell phones, baby wipes, and 1 of the 2 disposable cloth towels inside. Seal it up. Get one of the garbage bags and put the ziplock, backpack, shoulder bag, etc. inside. Twist the bag until it's tight against the contents and tie a knot in it. When closer to the loading area before you get to that last-chance garbage can get the ponchos on (and throw away the packaging). You should still be holding 1 of the 2 disposable cloth towels and a garbage bag. Time to load. 1 person should place the tied up garbage bag in the center stuff holder thingy while the other person who has that cloth should quickly dry off the seats you are about to sit in. Sit. Whip off your flip-flops or crocs, quickly drop them in the 2nd garbage bag, roll it up (don't tie it because it will slow you down getting your footwear back out), and pop it into the center stuff holder thingy. You're ready to ride. I prefer clear ponchos because I can hold the face part loosely near my face from the inside without losing visibility. After the ride is over, quickly slip your footwear back on and exit. After you exit, stuff the wet ponchos and cloth towel you dried the seats with into the empty garbage bag. Get the dry, unused towel out of the ziplock and dry off any portion of you that got wet with the funky water. Use the baby wipes to wipe over the parts of your arms or legs that may have had that funky water on them. Last, you should get all your bags/stuff out of the ziplock and garbage bag. Put all used packaging into the one garbage bag and throw away. Voila! You've been on Kali and spent the rest of your day both dry AND clean! Yaaaaayyyyy!!! :sohappy: I would suggest 1 pack for every 2 people in your party for each ride. So if your party of 4 wants to ride Kali & Splash, make 4 packs. If you think you'd want to ride these rides more than once, multiply.

Let the bashing/laughing begin!

And I doooo love Splash Mountain because it's the story of Brer Rabbit which I had as a book/record thing when I was a kid. I love that story, I just don't want to get wet or funky to enjoy it.

I really dont wanna get soaked, a little wet is not that bad, but I dont wanna get soaked and have to walk around like that. Plus us guys get what we call around here in Pittsburgh a thing called "Kennywood Balls" and its not that great of an experiance.

Bring a small child to use as a shield.

Alternatively the stranger next to you also works but results may vary depending on their gravity.

We only got really wet on Splash when we had a log to ourselves and sat in the front row. The physics behind getting a chest/face full of water on that ride though were very simple. Another time we were in the middle, didn't get too wet after the big drop but I got nailed by a water cannon as our log slowly circled around the bend (thanks other log flying down to the Briar Patch!)

Unfortunately it's a crap shoot as to how wet you'll get. Combined weight of everyone in the log plays a large role I think. A log full of adults with slightly larger individuals up front may equal everyone getting wet to some degree or another.

Bring on the water cannons, but whatever you do, please, don't throw me in that briar patch!!

There really isn't too much you can do, especially if they have the cannons turned up.. I think the part you get the most wet on is before u take the big drop and you wrap around outside in front and around the drop.. When you are on the left side a cannon shoots water at your boat when another boat makes the drop.. If that cannon is on, you are getting wet.
