How to improve the BLT

I am a fan of the Backlot Tour at DHS and it makes me sad when I see the wasted potential it has. People love to see behind-the-scenes kinda stuff, so I really think the BLT could be a major draw if done right.

So how would you improve the BLT?

I think a good first step would be to include props from recent Marvel movies. I realize that Disney does not own the rights to Spiderman, X Men, etc. just yet, but I'm sure some simple bargaining could be done for some movie props. Any other thoughts?

When I saw the Title "BLT" I thought you were going to say something about "Bay Lake Towers"

Any way Back Lot tours is a great time to get off my feet and take a little ride

One of the few things I remember during the one childhood visit was the Golden Girls house, at least I think it was. I thought that was something....

Add Turkey?
Nah, Mayo. Definately Mayo.... :)

Seriously, unless they are going to carve out a chunk of land for it and make it into something that feels more like a studio tour (even if it's fake) then I say close it.

Put the animal down now, don't make it limp along until it dies by itself...

Me too! I was going to say, "Leave it alone! They just built the dang place. The paint's still wet!"

As for the Backlot Tour......sigh. I would make it better by bulldozing LMA and putting the tour back how it originally was.

Put the SFX show back in with the blue-screen (it was the "Honey I Shrunk" bee scene when I first went) and showing the making of The Lottery subway scene. It was a long tour and well worth the price of admission - to me at least.

Now you see some water cannons and get on a tram to Catastrophe Canyon and get dumped off at a gift shop. It's so depressing.

I totally agree. There is so much movie magic that could be revealed and people love this kind of stuff. You can't buy a DVD anymore without it coming with 172 hours of "behind the scenes, extras" kind of stuff. I really think the BLT could be a major staple of DHS once again.

I think we have a winner!!!

The tour is not what it used to be, not by a long shot. You can't fix that which isn't there anymore. As such, it should just be closed completely.

I think that the BLT is a great attraction in concept, but it has become an abomination in practice. Fixing it would require:

  • Changing the introductory film to something of relevance.
  • Changing the special effects demo to something that hasn't been seen by visitors ad nauseam.
  • Adding several outdoor scenes from shows or films that would cause most visitors to think, "Wow, I remember that". (Remember the houses?)
  • Adding bone-yard items that people might actually find interesting. (Hint: with all of Disney's contacts, interchanging the items on occasion should be a snap)
  • No longer emphasizing the Frenchie Stunt Car Show as though it isn't already an attraction.
  • Three words: props, props, props.

Right on all accounts. Pearl Harbor was released in 2001! But I guess Disney's studios haven't produced any live action films worth showcasing since then.

I never watched Golden Girls, but I did see Ernest Saves Christmas - so at least I was able to appreciate one house on the backlot street.

The prop warehouse is pretty cool, but I've never had the opportunity to appreciate what's in there because there is never a wait for the trams.

The bone yard is more like a grave yard now. Everything is falling apart and rusting. Maybe they could have built a no-wall building back there to park the big things under - at least to protect them from rain and sun.

My vote really is to trash the whole thing and start over - or just get rid of it and put in something brand new.
