How much cash do you take?

I decided to put my trip money onto my credit card for the sake of convenience (KTTW), but I am still unsure about how much actual cash to bring.

How much do you take?

I usually carry around US$200 down with me but generally when I'm out and about at WDW I'll carry $40, mostly in small bills for tips and snacks [the swipe card readers at the carts don't always work].

If I'm going to Fantasmic! I'll take a bit more in case DS wants something from the carts there or snacks/pop from the roving vendors.

That $200 USD is for the two of you? So, if it was just you, $100 cash should be sufficient?
Easily, most everything can be charged to your room key. All you need is for casual tips to folks like your DME driver if s/he handles your bags, Mousekeeping and enough to cover if the card reader is malfunctioning at a snack cart. The light-up bobbles at Fantasmic! are more tempting for kids [IMO]. If you start to run out, there are lots of ATMs...

I'm with you guys; I bring very little actual cash. I might stick a $20 and a few smaller bills in my pocket in the morning before heading out, but everything that's not DDP goes on the KTTW card. I still have to figure out how to deal with the annoying TS tip issue for our Dec. trip, but that's still far away. H20Babie, how are you planning to pay for your tips?

I'm so glad you asked that. I've been wondering, too. I'm not fond of carrying large amounts of money at all and I don't feel comfortable tipping off of a credit card. We don't link a credit card to our room key either. I don't know...I'm not complaining about having to pay tip though. I think that will cause service to improve in some places. I just want to figure out a way to tip with little to no annoyance.

That's what I figured. Thanks :)

I'm on the DDP so I figure I will just sign for it with the linked KTTW. I'll probably be having a glass of wine with dinner too, so the KTTW link is more convenient.

As for mousekeeping, I'm thinking tipping $2.00 per day (with a little extra on the last day is service is exceptional) since it is just me and I can't imagine being a horrible slob!

I was figuring on $100 in cash so it looks like I'm in that ballpark. Thanks everyone!

Cahs for the trip

I used to take betw 4-500 but cut back. Last year I purchased Disney Gift cards at the local disney store, one for me, one for DW and 7-$25 cards for DD. She got one for each day (in case she lost one it wasn't much to worry about). I put little labels on the back with our name and numbered DD's 1-7, when one was used up we put it asside (she likes to collect them). This worked great, I made sure to take lots of singles for tips, did all the mousekeeping envelopes up prior to leaving so just took one out of the safe each day, now I'm down to $200 in cash but I always put that extra $100 bill in the wallet just in case. Also have the DisneyVisa and other CC's.

I'm extremely OCD, so my opinion probably doesn't matter, but I usually carry at least $200 cash with me in the parks. You never know when you might encounter one of those cash-only emergencies . Of course I never spend more than 60 or 70 per day, since I don't have a wife or kids.

I am going to bring my cash in the form of travelers checks. They are free at AAA and you will be reimbursed if they are lost or stolen. I will probably bring $500 - $1,000 worth. I will use my Disney Visa for all major transactions and have cash for the smaller ones. Better to have too much than too little.

We drove down in Jan and between the DW and I we probably had no more the $30 or $40 in cash ( and thats for a family of 7 ) It was nice, no pocket book or wallet to carry. I just put my Debit card, KTTW and license in my pocket and went. Granted this is generally how I go through life, the parents and in laws think were crazy because we never carry cash.

I have $400 in cash....going to put another $1000 on a savings cards for spending money...then I will leave the rest on my debit card so I will have that if I need it. I think that should be plenty though

Part of the way I save for trips involves buying gift cards from the band program's scrip program-- depending on how much I can afford to put aside, I buy a $25-$100 gift card each month and then take the gift cards with me. By the time all is said and done, I usually end up with $300-$500 in gift cards, plus my Disney Rewards dollars ($150-200). I really try to take next to nothing cash wise, but I usually take $100 in cash total for tips and as a cushion--> the goal is to try and "pre-pay" for as much as I can through savings so I don't have to take out extra money once I go on my trip. It doesn't always work that way, but it helps ease the burden once I get back.

Long in short of it: $100 should be great. Enjoy your trip!

Lol ... I wish I could spend as much as some of you! Unforuntately, we Canadians are limited to bringing back $750 CAN if we are gone 7 days or more. Since I will only be there 6 nights this trip, they don't count it as a full week, and I can only bring back $400 CAN before duty kicks in. I guess that's one way to reign in my spending :)

So, $100 cash and probably another $600-$700 on the KTTW link and I'm set!

6 more days :sohappy:
