How many TS meals do you have each trip?

Anytime the issue of the dining plan comes up, I know there is always the debate about planning out your meals ahead of time vs just being free to eat where you want when you want without being locked into a certain amount of TS restaraunts, etc. So I know there are different points of view about how many TS restaraunts to eat at each trip, preferences over planning your day around food, etc.

On our next couple trips, I decided to change our approach a little and ditch the dining plan, in favor of being annual pass holders and using the Tables in Wonderland Card. Our April 2012 and April 2013 trips will be dated so as to allow both of them to be under the same annual pass.

Since I now have the freedom to plan our meals however we want without having to worry about using up all these meal credits, I must admit I may have gone overboard a little with the meals I currently have planned for next year's April trip. We're staying 5 nights at the Poly and 5 nights at the Beach Club and so far, I have counted 15 sit down meals. One for each night of our stay, plus 5 breakfasts. There are just so many different ones I have wanted to try, rather than narrowing it down, I figured I would just take advantage of the fact that I won't have to keep track of all these darn counter service and snack credits to make sure that we get them used up in the midst of the abundance of Table Service Restaraunts...especially since we also have days that we are going off property, such as Sea World, the beach, etc.

So 15 TS meals for a 10 night stay. Anyone else do similar amounts of Table Service dining in proportion to the amount of nights you are staying? Or do you like to limit it to no more than one per day of your stay? Less than one per day?

We plan one TS meal a day, but on a rare occasion we may have 2.

We are not planners so we just do what we want and take a reservation to our requested restaurant whenever it's available.

We stay at our timeshares when we're at Disney and will, as a rule, eat breakfast and dinner there. And, as a rule, we'll eat lunch at the parks at a table service restaurant.

When we first started going to WDW, we did 2 TS meals a day: breakfast and dinner. We went to the breakfasts because our children wanted to do character meals and enjoyed them. Now that they are older, we generally only do 1 TS meal/day. I found that my time at the parks was being dictated by our ADR's and I didn't like it. I really like the 1 TS meal a day with an occasional 2TS meal. We don't do a lot of counter service meals, but may try it when we go down again next month. Enjoy eating your way around Disney!! Hope you have some meals that are fabulous!

We do 2-3 table service meals every day. On our next trip we are going for 10 days and have 21 sit down meals. What can I say...I love me some Disney Restaurants.

We're a 1 TS meal per day family with the exception that we might throw in one early character breakfast and then have a late dinner somewhere that night. I love the restaurants but don't want to spend all my time their eating. I'd rather be out enjoying the parks. Plus I feel like you eat way more at a lot of the TS meals than QSRs so from a diet standpoint myself and my family don't want to eat a ton of TS meals. Of course just my opinion. Where'd you book your reservations??

I agree with lbrad, it's a lot of food. We do lots of table service meals for a reason.
- First, I have a phobia of fighting for a table and food. Whenever we do quickservice it stresses me out beyond belief. It's a little OCD of me, I know, but if I didn't have a reservation so that I KNOW I have a table, I would worry about the meal all day until we got there and did get to sit down. When at AK we usually do Restaurantosaurus, and I swear, I worry all morning about what time we should go, the crowds, etc.
- Second, we have two little kids, and being able to sit down in an air-conditioned place for a more relaxed meal is the way we get through the days. We don't like to go back to the resort, plus our kids are past the napping phases anyways (3 and 6). But they still get tired and overwhelmed and need to take a break. A TS meal is the best way for us to kill two birds with one stone. We get a great meal, calm my OCD worries, and get to rest.
- Third, I LOVE the restaurants. I can't imagine having to choose which ones to choose and which ones to cut! All our other vacations throughout the year we only eat one restaurant meal a day and snack through the rest of the day. In fact, at home I only eat one good meal a day and cereal or something for the other meals. But at Disney?! Part of the magic is getting to enjoy great food for the trip. It actually keeps me on the straight and narrow when I am at home to know that when I'm at Disney I don't have to diet for one second. :sohappy:
- Fourth, and finally, we walk so much on our Disney trip that I surprisingly don't gain weight. Last year we went for 7 days and had like 20 TS meals. I actually lost 3 lbs on the trip. I just try to sprint a few times an hour (leave the kids with the DH and sprint to that fastpass!) and it keeps me from gaining weight. It's like doing surge training, Disney style. For me, the hardest part is detoxing when I get home and training my mind and body to go back to just one meal a day. I usually factor in a transition week, then it's back to the grindstone for me the week after. This year we get home the Sunday before Thanksgiving, so I guess I'll have to go back to the straight and narrow after that!

Oh...and sorry if my email sounds defensive...it totally isn't! I really love Disney dining and just wanted to say why. I know everyone has to do what is best for their family.

We have done 2 in a day in the past but felt we spent the day maneuvering around the ADRs which we didn't like. Also, we learned that if we have a TS dinner we should not book a TS breakfast the next morning because the only person in the family who will be interested in eating will be our oldest DS (who is perpetually hungry ). So, for our upcoming September adventure we'll be on-property between WL & YC a total of 11 nights /12 days and have 12 ADRs.

As for the dining plan, I don't like it because of the fact it's too much food. If food is offered or in front of me I'm going to eat it. Both times we used the DDP I both the hubby & I gained no less than 10 lbs each. I tend to make better choices & not over-indulge if I'm looking at menu prices.

Last trip we went for 6nts/7days and had 10 ts meals. We were originally scheduled to do 13, but various issues came up forcing us to cxl 3. I'm going with positive thinking and saying we're going to be at WDW this time next week...and with that being said, we're going for 4nts/5 days and have a whopping 10 ts meals. I get really caught up in the experience and the benefits of some meals. Our kids are young and TS meals seem to really help calm them down + if we stock up on character meals, they don't ask to wait in long meet and greet lines in the parks. Experience and benefit aside- I try and plan this "perfect" dining trip for us and I think that's why we try and do more. Plus we're usually pushing around a 31lb stroller with 60+ lbs of kids and stuff...so we burn some of it off.

That was part of my thinking on our most recent trip, which I am carrying over to next year's trip as well. If we eat at many character meals and give my son (or in next year's case, BOTH kids) that many chances to meet the characters, I don't feel so mean if I rush them along at the parks so as to not waste time standing in line for characters. However, back in April, I discovered that my son apparently has the same zeal to move along in the parks as I do, as there was a couple of times that I was perfectly willing for him to stand in line (lines which I didn't deem to be all that long, or I felt like we had plenty of time to spare anyway) and he voluntarily decided that he didn't want to wait in line for the character meet. And one of them was Buzz Lightyear in TommorowLand. He kept saying he wanted to meet Buzz, so I made sure to have him over there at the designated time to get a pic, but a small line had built up ahead of us and after waiting a few minutes, he decided he was no longer interested.

On the one hand, I appreciate the fact that he shares my passion for wanting to cover as much ground as possible and not waste time. On the other hand, I wish he would mellow it down just a bit so I could actually have those photos to enjoy in the photo album! :ROFLOL:

By the way, for what it's worth, out of those 15 sit down meals, here is what we have so far that are character meals:

Garden Grill
Chef Mickey's
Cinderella's Royal Table supper
HollyWood and Vine Breakfast
Crystal Palace Breakfast
Cape May Cafe Breakfast
Tusker House Breakfast
Mickey's Backyard BBQ

We had 1900 Park Fare on the list, but my wife decided she would rather do Grand Floridian Cafe. But that's still plenty of character meets.

Looks like I'm in the minority. During our 2008 trip, we did no table service meals the entire week. In 2010, we did two table services meals that week (one was good - Restaurant Marakkesh, and one was bad - Coral Reef.) For our 2012 week-long trip, we will once again make only 2 ADRs for the trip.

I am basically anti-dining plan because it doesn't make sense for us. (Although our next trip falls during Free Dining so we'll be giving the QS plan a try.)

Overall, I think table service meals just waste way too much time, especially since we travel during the 'off' season when the park hours are shorter. Also, we aren't really big planners. And overall, we've been pretty underwhelmed with Disney food. So for me, I can't imagine eating even 1 table service meal a day, let alone 2.

Normally I eat one TS meal a day on a trip. This year I am on the Deluxe plan, so I have ADRs for 16 places over 9 days.

For a seven day trip we probably plan about 10-11 TS meals but we probably cancel a good 3-4 of those. We always stray from our plans since our moods change.

DW and I always have a TS dinner each evening. We also add a TS lunch when we're on the Deluxe DDP.
