OK I was thinking based on another post about some people liking Disney and some not liking it as to why?

So I wonder if the Disney nuts are mainly people who experienced it as a child or it doesn't matter.

Well... Disney nuts don't necessarily have to like the theme parks.

Or for that matter, experience it is a kid.

So I guess my response would be doesn't matter.

'Disney Nut' would not necessarily be limited to people who visited the Disney theme parks as children.

Before there was DisneyLand, before there was DisneyWorld, there were Disney cartoons and, most importantly, 'The Wonderfull World of Disney' on TV.
The TV show, introduced each time by Walt and TinkerBell, showed various Disney productions and, later, the plans for DisneyLand.

The TV show caused a Davy Crockett phenomenon in the 1950's, similar to the current Hannah Montana craze. Those shows, starring Fess Parker, featured 3 different episodes of Davy Crockett. Kids became hooked on Davy as a hero, particularly boys.
That was followed by Davy Crockett T-shirts, Davey Crockett toys, and even Davy Crockett bubble gum.
The Mike Fink keel boats came from the Davy Crockett episodes.

Training for being a 'Disney Nut' started long before the theme parks.

Fond memories.

I never got to go to the parks as a kid...first time I went was when I was 16. I knew I wanted to go though the minute I saw it on the Disney Channel as a youngun' and haven't looked back since. :)

I was fortunate to go as a kid all the way up to now...I think I was 10 for my first WDW trip in 1992. I am an official Disney Nut and so is my mom and sister. We just cant get enough...I have a lot of friends who went when they were older and just love it...Its like no other place in the world. You leave all your problems and worries at the front gate when you arrive in Disney...What a stress free place to be!!! I cant wait to go back in November.

I am a Disney "NUT!" I first went when I was 10 years old. It was the fist time for my parents and baby sister too! After that one trip it was official, we ALL became Disney Crazy!!! We went and still go every single year since that first trip 22 years ago!! My sister who has gone every year since she was a newborn just finished the College Program there last year and actuallly is heading down to DisneyWorld today!!!!! Lucky girl!! I think a lot of people who go as children still go as adults because they feel like they are children again!! 40 days and counting!!

I went as a kid, 8 or 9, to MK in the mid 80s. Didn't go back until married in 2000. 3 trips since. Became a Disneyphile sometime in the past 2-3 years.

In answer to the "What Keeps You Going Back?" thread a while back I posted the following:

A combination of:

- Nostalgia (memories from past trips all the way back to childhood)
- Familiarity (the World is much easier to enjoy the more practice you get at it)
- Changes (there is always something new to experience)
- Quality (It's still the Mercedes Benz of theme park experiences)

That nostalgia factor is a big one IMO.

I never went to Disney as a kid:-( The first time I went was when I was 19! I have been going back every year or two since!!! I am officially a "Disney Nut." My son is 6 and maybe just as in love with Disney as I am. He has been lucky enough to go to Disney world every year since he has been born! My parents told me that I created a monster, b/c now he expects to have a Disney vacation every year :animwink:

A Disney Nute:

Seriously though, I did visit Disney as a kid. But I find that the older I get, the more details I notice and the more rewarding my Disney experience is.

First time I went was in 1973 at the age of 5. I've been back, on average, more than once a year since. My sister was 3 on her first trip, and she loved it right up until she became ultra-religious and ultra-nutty a the same time.

My wife never went as a kid, and loves it now, or at least tolerates the constant trips with a smile on her face!

But I know plenty of others for whom WDW holds no fascination whatsoever.

I've been going since I was 9 or 10 (late 70's) and have been totally in love ever since. I was lucky enough that my grandparents moved an hour away from Orlando when I was about 13/14, so every year we would visit them and take a trip to Disney. I skipped a few years later in life, (late teens early 20's), for the cruising experience, not quite my thing, though my husband LOVES it. So once my DS was born '89 and my DD in '95 we've been every years since (and sometimes twice a year). They're just like me, Disney Nuts. Their friends ask them "Oh, you're going to Disney again?" And they simply say, "Yup, and we love it." We do toss in a couple of days at US and IOA and stay at Hard Rock (Express Pass!!) and an occasional trip to Bush Gardens and Sea World, but truly nothing makes us feel like Disney. You just can't beat the childhood memories you get from being there. I'm so glad my kids have those memories like I do and hope they marry people with the same or similar love for it as we have.

The nutes thing threw me--took a minute to figure it out. :hammer:

Never went as a kid. My first trip was during spring break as a high school junior in 1980. Visited again on my honeymoon in 1986. Went back for pre-10th anniversary trip (we had some $$ that year, didn't know if we'd have it the next) in 1995. Turned out we did have a few bucks in 1986, went for it, and have been fortunate enough to get back at least once a year since. Joined DVC in 1998.

We keep trying to go somewhere else, but WDW keeps pulling us back. :sohappy:

I often think it is the childhood memories of the place, even with all of the changes, that keeps pulling me back to the world.

That being said, I am trying EXTREMELY hard to convert my wife.....she is a little reticent, but coming around in her own way...:D

I was around 2 when my parents took me on my first trip. I'm taking my 10th trip in May as a 24th Birthday present to myself! So, yes I grew up going to the parks, watching the movies, going to my local Disney Store (RIP :(), listening to Disney music and buying Disney toys. Every Christmas I would get a different Disney figurine. Most are still on display in either my parents den or my Disney themed bathroom. As a matter of fact our last "family photo" has Mickey Mouse in it (kind of appropriate if you ask me). My love goes a lot deeper than just one aspect of Disney b/c it is something that has always been around.

So to sum it up:

"Hi, my name is Nick, and I am a Disney nut."

I have been going ever since I was six months old. I would have to say that a lot of what keeps me going back is nostalgia. While I like AK and DHS I do not get the shivers as someone called it when I see the tree of life or the hat. That is because they were added when I was a little older. However, I love soarin and dinosaur so I think that they have a knack for balancing the new with the old. I also love it for its unique quality. I was in DTD a couple of weeks ago and sometimes I almost feel as if I am off property when I am there now. I am just not crazy about a movie theater or a virgin mega store that I can visit any where. I understand that these may be popular for others I am just voicing my opinion. Thankfully, my wife enjoys Disney even though it is not in her blood. (it is only here where people will understand that statement). In many ways I am a cynical person, but Disney seems to strip all of that away every time I go.
