:sohappy:This'll date me, but I grew up in the golden age of Disney television, when the Wonderful World of Disney was on during Family hour on Sunday nights...this was one of the few times a week we kids were allowed to watch "a program" (because it was guaranteed to be children's material.) Grew up watching that wonderful Disneyland castle, listening to Walt introduce the shows and dreaming about going to Disneyland itself someday. We never did as kids (way too costly for 8 kids) Have still never been to Disneyland, but Disneyword...trip 5 coming up in 48 days!:sohappy:

I was deprived as a child I never left the state of Kansas until I was sixteen. I think that is why I make it a point to take as many trips with my daughter as possible. However, after my first trip to Disney at 25 I was hooked. Now me and my dd go every year. My brother also has four kids so I take one every year so they get to see the magic too. Who wouldn't want to be a Disney nute?:ROFLOL:

I was lucky. I was there October 1971 and every year there after until I was in 9th grade. Then back in 1993, 1999, 2003, 2005, 2007, and September 2009!!. I love everything about the place and we always watch Toon Disney or the Disney channel at our house. I love the Buzz Lightyear cartoon but they don't play it very often. I am hoping to install the love in my kids also. You know you have it bad when after 2 trips to Hawaii all I can say is it's nice but NOT Disney World.

My first trip was when I was nine in JUL76. Realy didn't catch the bug until my second trip (first with my wife) in APR98.

I never got to go as a kid but faithfully watched Wonderful World of Disney on Sunday nights. On Palm Sunday in 1965 we were visiting relatives who had a color television (yes, we only had black and white at our house). We begged to stay and watch Wonderful World of Disney in color. Our parents gave in and during the broadcast tornadoes ripped through the area. We would have been on the road in the middle of the storms so I always say that Disney saved my life so, of course, I'm a Disney nut! I've been to Disneyland 3 times and DH and I are headed to the World in December for our 6th visit!:sohappy:

The first time I went was last year. I was lucky enough to go to DL and WDW. I went to DL with my sister and Brother-in-law, he was in Cal. for work so they took me for my b-day and then we went to WDW with our families 3 months later. We now have plans to go back to the World with our families and another sister and her family. It is a great place for siblings to really spend quality time together. My husband now is a huge fan and says he has no desire to spend his hard earned vacations anywhere else.Myfirst trip wasn't until I was 29 but the second I walked through those gates and out onto Main Street I felt like I was 10 again...so I guess if you're like me and go late you're gonna feel like a kid anyway.:sohappy:

A Disney Nute:

Seriously though, I did visit Disney as a kid. But I find that the older I get, the more details I notice and the more rewarding my Disney experience is.

Oh yes, I purposely meant Nute Gunray not nuts as other folks are misunderstanding. LOL, this pic made me laugh.

My grandparents took me for the first time in 1979, when I was 2 yrs old. They took me back in '81 and '82.

I don't really remember a whole lot about those trips. But, as a child I would beg my grandpa to get out his screen and slide projector, so I could look at his slides of our Disney trips.
I was 5 when they took me in '82, and my grandmother bought me my own camera and a bunch of film........... I was able to have my own photo-album of MY pictures of WDW. I thought that was so cool and still have the photo album of our trip and stay at the Poly.

So, now, when I get to babbling about Disney World, and my family rolls their eyes, I always say "blame it on Papaw and Mamaw....they started this!"

My kids are going to be WDW nuts too......... we leave for WDW in 34 days. EVERY morning when they get up they ask, "how many days until we go to Disney World?" Whenever I give them a lower number, they erupt in cheers! :sohappy:

I've always wanted to take my grandfather and grandmother back to WDW now that we have the means to do so. But, my grandfather has pretty severe dementia now and I think it would only confuse him. Still, I credit him being a kid at heart for instilling the love of WDW in me!

Thanks, mamaw and papaw! :king:

First made the trip down from Boston when I was 5 and have gone down at least every other year since. (There have been some years when I was able to go down several times a year in consecutive years.)

I think it helps to have grown up with it. But I wouldn't say it is a determining factor either way.

I went for a day when I was barely old enough to remember it. I went to Epcot for a day in high school. Then I went for a week as an adult and discovered I loved it.

Most of my family, who have been a few times growing up, really don't like WDW. The ones that do, "discovered" it as an adult.

My response is different than anything else. I went to Disney as a child and hated it. But ended up loving it once I got into my late teenage years. After that, I became the Disney nut that I am today.

But I agree with the above statement, it does help to have grown up with it b/c there are some nostalgic memories that I have as a kid that I do remember and did color some of the things I love at Disney. However, ironically enough, the attractions that I absolutely hated as a kid are now among my favorites.
